University of Alabama Law Clinics

The University of Alabama Law Clinics, located at 101 Paul William Bryant Drive in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, is a comprehensive legal institution offering a variety of services to the community. The Appellate Advocacy Clinic allows law student interns to litigate appeals in state and federal courts, while the Children’s Rights Clinic focuses on protecting the rights of youth with disabilities in the juvenile justice system. Additionally, the clinic provides free legal representation for low-income individuals and University of Alabama students facing criminal charges, as well as offering mediation services for family court cases. The Entrepreneurship & Nonprofit Clinic provides pro bono legal services to small businesses, start-ups, and nonprofit organizations.

The UA Law Clinics were established in 1970 and have since grown to include six in-house clinics and the Veteran’s Law Project. The clinics aim to provide hands-on training for law students while offering high-quality legal assistance to those in need. Students gain practical experience in client counseling, case management, legal research, and advocacy under the supervision of experienced faculty. The program emphasizes social justice work, cultural competency, and professional ethics.

Every law student at the University of Alabama School of Law is guaranteed the opportunity to participate in at least one law clinic before graduation, with supervision and mentorship provided by clinical faculty. The clinics play a crucial role in preparing students for the practice of law and in fulfilling the school’s commitment to public service. Through their work, students in the law clinics contribute approximately 15,000 hours of free legal assistance annually to individuals and organizations in Tuscaloosa and beyond.
