Reviews of John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County
"Worst experience ever! Went there because my doctor sent me and she told them I was coming and I waited almost 7 hours in the waiting area and was never seen! They kept taking all the migrants and making us wait. So I left and was never seen. The staff there needs to do better and to be retrained."
"Worst hospital experience in Chicago. For an eye infection and tooth pain I wasn’t even looked at for 4 and a half hours. Only because I went to the nurses and complained. Mind you one of the doctors told me the order you wait in can change at any time. That waiting 6+ hours is not unusual here. They sent me to a room where I waited ANOTHER 45 minutes to even be seen. To wait ANOTHER 45 minutes. To be seen about my second issue. I came in this building at 11:30 in the morning. It’ll be 7pm when I leave. Thank god I was in no immediate danger. I’d be dead."
"My brother was shot on 09/25/2021 he was rushed to Stroger and yes I know the rules when a patient is shot. The hospital was locked down I use to work for a trauma hospital. Nobody notified us as we were standing outside that he was dead. Thank God our cousin was a police officer, because that was how we found out he passed away. We still have know official cause of death as to why he passed away was it something that happened while he was in surgery, because for a whole hour he was fighting for his life. None of the doctors said a worried to us we was never able to see our brother until he was transferred to the corners office. I feel like my family and I deserve an explanation on what exactly happened to him. Our family deserves answers and I will not be quiet until I get the answers we deserve."
"Best attention. The doctors and nurses were kind, compassionate and very professional with me. Just one week ago I went to another hospital with a severe abdominal pain and they didn't do anything for me, just they reccomend me to drink mylanta and tylenol but my pain didn't stop for days, I had contractions pain in my belly. Thanks god I decided to come here and after an ultrasound they see that I have adenomyosis. Finally, I found the light in the end of tunnel and I will have the right treatment. Thanks to these doctors who really care about their patients and thanks to the nurse who was so kind and caring."
"Waited over 3 hours and didn’t even get seen. Waited 30-45 minutes to get triaged, then 2 hours before getting called back with a group of four other people…only to go to another waiting room. Waited for another 30-45 minutes before I was called for registering my insurance… I left shortly after that without being seen and traveled to the urgent care near my house. Glad it was a minor infection and that I wasn’t dying, but I was still in pretty bad pain. Only came here because my symptoms were worsening on my way to work (abdominal pain, fever, nausea, faintness) and this ER was on the way, but definitely won’t be back. The biggest issue I have is that it wasn’t just me; everybody was getting a similar treatment. I don’t think anyone went back the entire time we were waiting. Staff was hit or miss. Some were nice, but most seemed jaded and insensitive. The hospital didn’t seem understaffed either; in fact I saw a fair amount of staff just standing around not doing anything. it just seemed like there are not enough rooms for patients. Still not a reason to take out a bad mood on the patients. The check-in lady sitting in the middle was particularly mean. She got agitated with me when I didn’t immediately stand in front of her station despite the family ahead of me still trying to move away. Like, did she want me to push someone else’s baby stroller out of the way? She also ignored me for a full 30 seconds after asking for my ID to slowly pull out food and stuff from her desk so I just kinda stood there holding it up to her while I waited."
