Reviews of Union Hospital
"This is from another women’s post. Just spreading awareness! On october 24th 2023 was the worst day of my life. & being so dealing with union hospital in Terre Haute Indiana in the worst day of my life made it even more traumatizing for me & my family. This day my son unexpectedly passed away. This might be a triggering post for some people. On October 24th I woke up around 5 am and my 2 month old baby boy Wesley was cold. I called 911 and started cpr on him. Praying to god I could somehow bring my baby boy back. When the fire department & ambulance arrived they took him away. To which they eventually asked me to meet them at the hospital ER. When we got there I was a mess, even so I was trying to be patient. The two women at the desk were purposely ignoring me even though me, my mother, & fiancé was in distress. I finally cried to them,” where is my baby? I need to get to my baby.” To which they ignored me and said to the other person how I RUDELY interrupted them. Finally a nurse came out. Her name was Kim Parrish. She then brought us to a room to give me the notification. She lacked any empathy to me & seem annoyed with the fact she had to deal with me at all. Like I was a burden & my child’s death was an inconvenience to her day. I cried to her & begged her to see my baby. Which she was rude and refused to allow me to until law enforcement made her. When I was in the room with my baby boy talking to him & crying she threatened to kick me out many times. I asked her “how did this happened, what happened to my baby?” She said to me “babies don’t just die.” She said this twice & just shrugged at me as in an accusingly fashion that I had done something to my baby boy. Anybody who knows me knows that Wesley was showered with love 24/7 he was my precious baby boy. Still is my precious sweet angel baby. He was cuddled and loved constantly. He passed away from sids & this nurse acting like this to me really made me blame myself for a long time. No mother in this situation deserves that when you are going through the worst possible thing to happen to somebody. I will never forget it for the rest of my life how this woman & hospital treated us that day when I lost my beautiful baby boy Wesley. Please avoid this hospital if at any way possible being they did nothing about this situation & obviously lack any empathy for other human beings for which is a huge part of working in that career field."
"Absolutely will never take my daughter (1 year old) here again. She had a fever of 104.5 and vomits when given medicine orally. This was her first time in a hospital and she was very scared, crying worse than I’ve ever seen. The nurses treating her insisted on giving her medicine as she was freaking out. They head nurse called in 2 other nurses to hold my daughters arms while the head nurse held her head back to administer medicine, all while my daughter was screaming. Not even a minute in and I had to push the head nurses hand off of my daughter and tell them to stop. My daughter then projectile vomited the medicine due to aspiration. It was then that they mentioned an acetaminophen suppository, which I didn’t even know was a thing at the time. The whole incident could have been avoided if they had lead with that after I told them she didn’t tolerate medicine orally very well. They left the room, came back shortly after and kept insisting I give her the medicine orally myself while a nurse watched. I felt pressured into doing so so I tried (while she was still freaking out). It again resulted in her vomiting even worse than the first time. THEN they had another staff come into the room and speak to me like a child, explaining my daughter needed to take the medicine and how it would help her (obviously. That’s why I was there). Her entire demeanor was indirect, awkward and quite frankly made me uncomfortable. Very unprofessional. It wasn’t until after the second time vomiting that it came to my attention there had been a mix up in communication because they mentioned I had refused to let them give her a suppository, which I never did and would have much preferred. They then proceeded with the suppository which helped almost immediately. Had they done that first we could have saved 2 hours. They are not experienced with infants/toddlers They have poor communication skills within staff And they were most definitely not comforting and compassionate in a highly stressful situation"
"they are about to take over the Regional Hospital in town. Regional is amazing and the people are friendly, and make sure you get the service you need. Union has too many nightmare stories to count and my own stories are too long to write down. They actually break the law on a regular basis though. Don't believe me? Go there yourself. It's scary to me that they are taking over a good hospital. Something is not right here."
"I've had screening and imaging procedures, and now an emergency procedure at Union, and the 2 stars is only because the service and medical staff were actually very good - but it all falls apart in the bureaucracy. The medical professionals (understandably specialized) either do not know how to connect you directly with the administration it takes to help you complete documentation for insurance and claims, or (especially in my case) the only point of contact doesn't respond at all 16 days after you attempt to contact them, and then goes out of the office for another 10 days, with no way to find who to contact in their place. Meanwhile, the patient's insurance or leave provider may begin denying claims, turning the process into an appeal and drawing out the agony of your medical care. This is not good service. This is also absurdly bad when you consider not assisting on the administrative side means it makes it more difficult for your patient to actually pay you for services. If Union could get their administrative side worked out, they'd be a 5 star provider."
"I Have in the past given a 5 star review for this hospital and it's staff. I'm sorry, but this time I can't due to a very incompetent nurse, who ruined my whole stay and made me very uncomfortable. My medicine was never on time and often I was ignored for an hour or more when using call button. When did they stop asking patients when being discharged about their experience? I would have liked to report her and tell about the wonderful one who made it all up to me when she came on."
