"Amazed from the history"
"I was under the impression upon visiting the American Indian museum in manhattan I would see information and visuals of the actual Indians of the north and south east and maybe learn something of their peoples aka the black Indians (Shinnecock, Wampanoag, Montauk, Pequot etc. The museum is of mostly the plains Indians, which is a very small group of native Americans who migrated to America. It is clear that these are NOT the Indians the pilgrims encountered given historical accounts. I asked one of the employees where were all the black Indians after I looked through the whole museum and happened to not see one. Her response after seeming shocked was “that’s a good question” and preceded to tell me about a native musical event approaching. Besides them erasing a great portion of the American Indian out of the picture and giving a scanty portion of the Plains Indians, it’s not that bad of a place but definitely nothing to plan a day out on visiting. A very beautiful building that looks almost ancient in the interior that left me wondering when it was built. All in all not really a great place to learn about the people that inhabited America prior to foreigners encroaching upon the lands."
