A Child's Heart Day Care

"I started working at A Child’s Heart in September and had to quit by December. Here’s some of my personal experiences. The director doesn’t listen to concerns, she’ll talk to you like you’re one of the children and she made me feel like I didn’t know anything, even though I’ve worked with children before. She tried to cheat out of my PAID training money and also my bonus that I worked for and fulfilled. She wouldn’t let me leave when I threw up twice, once in front of her. My boyfriend’s grandma (who I’m very close with) was in the hospital dying and she said I needed to come back to work and worded it in an “or else” kind of way. There’s little to no communication when serious things come up and she will get offended if you find out important information and it didn’t come from her. She made me work from 6:30 am to 5:35 pm one day because we were short staffed but she refused to hire anyone. When I put in my 2 weeks notice she was nasty to me for the last 2 and made it as miserable as possible. I was supposed to do 8am - 4:30pm but never got to because she would allow one of the workers to bring her kid (and not make her pay for it) and throw him in my room and I wouldn’t get to leave on time. She asked me to stay late almost everyday because we had literally no workers. I only got 30 minutes breaks even when I worked 10 hours. I was talked down to by my lead teacher and she talked poorly of all my coworkers and apparently about me! She talked down to me in front of the kids because I was significantly younger than her. There was also indication she wasn’t fond of my race (African American). I was lead teacher for 2 weeks during fall break, the lead teachers get paid $15 an hour and I never got $15 for the 2 weeks I worked as lead teacher. There’s so much more but it’s a miserable place to work. I feel terrible for the kids (especially the ones in my class). The teacher in my room treated them horribly, constantly screaming at them. She would hardly do games or crafts with then unless it was out of her little teaching book. She never gave them rewards or prizes because she said they were learning independence and they should just do it and not have to be “bribed.” She is unfit to be working with children in my opinion. I loved all the people I worked with though!"

"Our son has been at A Child's Heart for over 2 years and we could not be more pleased. The staff is proactive and always provides daily reports of your child's day and I never see any staff on their cell phones (which was an issue with a prior daycare). They have also recently remodeled much of the facility and the rooms are very large and nice now."
