"As a young kid in the 80s my parents used to come here when it was an "antique" store. Before that my parents would tell me they used to stop in every so often like when they 1st got married. As a young kid I didn't understand the amazing history and historical value to Long Island and Nassau County this house had. As an adult, in hindsight, it's frankly disgusting how mistreated this house was by the owner of the "antique" shop. The disrespect he showed this historical house and property was just despicable. I'm not surprised over the years efforts were made to repurpose it for some thing as the dude who owned it showed zero respect to the history of the house, and his "antique shop" was nothing more then an excuse to just use the property as a garbage dump. It's good to see they finally wrangled it away from him before he and his "antiques" destroyed this house completely and that some sort of preservation of this piece of history, albeit slowly, has been taking place since it was obtained from the owner who used it as a garbage dump, er sorry, an "antique shop". I can't help but feel like if it wasn't wrangled away from him, just like the nearby now gone Freeport Flat Iron Building and the Brooklyn Waterworks building, it too would be lost to history. It's horrible when someone owns an important piece of history and let's it rot, it's even more disgusting and abhorrent for someone to know the history, yet still treat it like a piece of trash like the guy who owned the antique shop. Thank you to all who have and will continue to assure it stays a living piece of history instead of a garbage dump for "antiques"."
