Reviews of Iroquois Mental Health Center- Watseka
"While Connie Clark (now a "therapist" in Springfield) worked at IMHC under the supervision of Dennis Hopkins, Jolene Foster Tom Gleeson, and Alberta Burton, I filed several complaints against her and IMHC for the mental abuse and financial exploitation of my niece during her treatment. My niece worked in the PSR program helping with paperwork but was often not paid. I made a complaint with OIG but they told me I had to work it out first with IMHC. I approached my "friend" Gale Boudreau who was Dennis Hopkins' "assistant" about my concerns, but she told me there was nothing I could do because I was not my niece's guardian. Connie Clark (who was the manager of the PSR program hired by Dennis Hopkins) basically shared her life story with my niece during private "sessions". My niece was seeing a therapist at the center, but the therapist refused to listen to our complaints because she was afraid of losing her job since turnover was high. Connie talked to my niece about how she was bi-polar, her borderline personality disorder, her cutting and suicide attempts. She discussed at length her father's death and how she hated him. I don't know if she was trying to establish a therapeutic rapport with my niece but it was disgusting to reveal these private things to my niece. It was extremely inappropriate. She insinuated my niece might be gay because she did not have a boyfriend which prompted me to complain first to Tom Gleeson the then acting clinical director. He ignored my complaint because (as I later found out) Connie was hired by Dennis Hopkins and she was untouchable from what the case managers in the PSR program told me. When Tom was "let go", I complained to Jolene Foster the new clinical director and she told me it was best my niece seek treatment elsewhere and refused to discuss this further even though my niece signed a release for me. This was several years ago and my niece is doing much better now but I am appalled by her treatment by the Iroquois Mental Health Center. They showed no compassion or character. Also, while taking my niece to counseling at IMHC, a male therapist who went by"Mickey" Shmikler once told several female anatomy jokes in the hallway in front of Tom Gleeson and the Director Dennis Hopkins. This was incredibly disgusting and knowing my niece had been physically abused made it even worse. A complete and total lack of professionalism show to my niece and I. If I had not been dealing with my own health issues, I would have discussed this with their board members. One of which was a neighbor. Very poor oversight of the management. We now live in another state but I feel compelled to leave this review. Update 7-30-15. Thank you all for your emails of support and sharing your experiences with the Iroquois Mental Health Center. Some of you have been asking who the board member was that I tried to reach out to. His name is James McRoberts who works at the Iroquois Memorial Hospital. I had called him and left a message and he called me back from the hospital. He said that there was nothing he could do because it was more of personal matter not professional misconduct. Seriously? From the board to their executive staff, IMHC failed us at every turn. I was told by a client that convicted criminal Deanna Lustfeldt was seen working there? Why would she be allowed to work in a place where she would have access to a client's personal information? Who hired her & why would the board allow it? Was this a favor for someone? Was the position created or advertised? What are her credentials to work there? Her own attorney said she had mental disorders. Nepotism?"
"Really liked my therapist until she up and left and it took me a month to find out she left. Waited almost a year to see the psychiatrist only to be told now not taking new patients. So people are supposed to just go without their medication and therapist."
"Jeanine is a great therapist it seems like the good one always goes or quit. She going to be missed. That why I don't like to meet ppl I get comfortable with ppl then they leave."
"My conditions are quite severe; as I say so myself. I have been in and out of psychiatrists and therapists since 1990 (age 3). Countless diagnoses, countless disappointments. I admit I can be a lot to handle, I push all buttons I can when I am having an episode. However, this office and ALL of its staff (including the crisis line) is more than qualified and caring to help even the most severe cases. Every time I’ve been in the office, spoken in person or on the phone, they show nothing but respect and empathy. Even in moments when a regular person would yell back, they stay calm. They even provide help in between visits! I’ve never had a facility that accepts state aid be so amazingly helpful. 32 years old and this office must have been sent from heaven; because in 24 years of being mentally ill, I have finally find doctors who genuinely want to see their patients get better."
"I have been seeing both a therapist and a psychiatrist at Iroquois Mental Health Services since I moved here in 2011. I have been in therapy and on medication for decades and my transition was almost seamless. I am not disagreeing with the other reviewer, only saying that my own experience has been good."
