Reviews of Harold C. Simmons Comprehensive Cancer Center
"We have been very happy with our experience at UT. My mom has been going there since 1999. Each doctor has been very caring. Dr. Robert Collins has seen us since the beginning. The staff has always been wonderful."
"The team was very nice, supportive. But the treatment was only to throw one drug after another to see if something stuck. I learned along the way that cancer spreads along several pathways, but chemo only blocks certain ones. Doctors never discussed how important diet is. Our daughter was told she was going into remission up until a week before she died. Very disappointing!"
"Not sure what has happened to this place. They still don’t have decent cafe back since Covid - no place to grab a coffee even while waiting. The valet people are extremely rude and now they have taken away the self park option. So a cancer center with the most vulnerable immune compromised patients and there is no choice but to allow a stranger in your car who could be carrying Covid or flu or anything else and infect the cancer patient. So you have to pay money to take a scary health risk. And they are nasty about it too. So disappointed as we used to love this place for cancer care."
"I went to UTSW for a second opinion after recommendations and because of its rating as a cancer center. My overall experience with them is very poor. I gave a second star because there were some wonderful nurses who cared for me and some great staff. It took me almost 6 weeks to get an appointment. After being told several times there were no appointments available, I asked if I should go some place else and all of the sudden an appointment was available. My doctor's nurse Tamara is probably the most incompetent nurse I have ever came across. Orders for tests were "missed" such as ordering a tumor marker test and forgetting to put in an order for specific labs when my blood count was too low for chemo just to name a few instances. When beginning radiation, I showed up to an appointment only to find out the doctor was not there. When asked why I was not contacted, I was told the Dr forgot she was moving offices. In another instance with this same radiation oncologist, I had an appointment with her before having radiation. She met me just outside of the changing area with her purse slung over her shoulder, in the actual waiting area, asked me to open my gown, she quickly checked my breast, said I was good to go for radiation to which I was charged over $800 for. My treatment was cookie cutter, not individualized as proclaimed. Maybe I need to manage my expectations of cutting edge care...I certainly have not experienced it. I have asked for my followup care to transferred to the Fort Worth office and have hopes of better care. Update: Fort Worth location was a TOTAL different experience. Extremely happy with the care there!"
"I currently am a patient here and I absolutely LOVE my doctor, Dr. V , and the exceptional nurses, Paul and Chelsea to name two. The whole staff are AMAZING! I never have to wait long for labs or the actual visit with my doctor. Along with God these wonderful people are saving many lives, including my own."
