"Few people know that Frederick Law Olmsted and his group over time designed 100s of our country's most important public parks, invented the concept of the US National Parks, created the profession of landscape architecture...and understood how green and open space positively affect behavior. His work and his tools are again on display in this house-studio, a true gem of a National Historic Site. It is a deeply moving experience to have been there."
"It was great to see the home and office of the first Landscape Architect, signature designer of so many iconic American parks and communities. It was interesting to see what has changed and what has remained the same in the practice of Architecture and Engineering in the past century."
"Guided tours start every 30 minutes which is highly recommended in order to see most of the house. The group size is limited to 8 due to the size of the rooms the tour takes place. Overall very interesting experience. After the tour, you might walk away with a much different view on how the Olmsted architectural firm shaped the public life in the US."
"The NPS does a lovely job maintaining and interpreting this place. The park ranger leading the tour was very knowledgeable and had answers for every question we threw at her. The outside was looking a little bit rough on my visit, but the ranger said they were actively working on restoring the fencing and shutters along with a fresh paint job, so expect it to be looking much better in the coming months."
"Many people have jogged through the Emerald Necklace or Central Park (just to name a couple of the hundreds of projects) designed by F. L. Olmstead; fewer might know that Boston is where his latest dwelling is. The house has become a museum and can be visited; a wonderful guided tour will show you all the nooks and crannies of this marvelous home. I suggest asking about the "hidden" trail in the garden. Enjoy!!"
