Reviews of Sea School Alabama
"So this school...a lot of people would not have their licences with out them. They are demanding that I do my part in earning this, they don't just give it to you. Some people don't respond to responsibility being thrust on them, I call those people non mariners in attitude. I've obtained my qmed, I was to give special honors to chief Ken, Mrs nellie and the guy that takes care of the grounds and lady who takes care of the berthings. The facility is spotless, and mechanically sound. I could not afford the price of training in my home town, I could however pay for it here and fly in for cheaper. The school is a fathering style of leadership, In that they make you reach inside your self and get the potential out of your self. To improve the school could have a video game system downstairs or maybe an extra tv or couch or two, but I understand they just flooded and I can't really fault someone for recovering from a natural disaster."
"My experience at this school rates five stars. I can't say enough good things about the staff, from the time I was picked up at the airport until I was dropped off I was made to feel welcome and treated with respect and courtesy. This school is run like a tight ship. It is clean, the sleeping accommodations are clean ,quiet, and comfortable and the food is great. My instructor was very good. He took the time to make sure every one in the class understood what we had going on in class and worked one on one with anyone needing help. I achieved my goals and would not hesitate to recommend this school to all those looking to further their marine careers. Thankyou to the staff and I will be back. Capt. Peter B Wadelton"
"If you are going for the Q-Med Class...DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY! Well, where should I start first. Let's start with the staff...the staff is unprofessional especially Steve. Steve is extremely rude and treats us adults as if we are kids. Yelling at grown men isn't cool. Now on to the QMED instructor, he had no knowledge of the subjects he was teaching on and the little he did know was very outdated. He only talked about his life and his past job experiences. I felt as if, once they receive your money, they didn't care about teaching us or customer satisfaction. The food is good but it is issued out to you in portion sizes and you aren't allowed to more until everyone else as eaten. When paying your hard earn money, you wouldn't expect to have to wait until someone else has eaten before you can get more of your favorite foods. They have audio listening devices in the restrooms and in the bedroom where you sleep so be careful what you say. For those of you, who enjoy watching television, just know that there aren't any television in the room. There is one television on the campus in a classroom that is shared by the entire school which isn't allowed to be turned on until 5 p.m. which is the time the classes end. I wish I had researched this place more. I feel like this class was a waste of money."
"Very good prices for classes related to maritime industry. Many people come from all around including the east coast to get captains certificates from here since it can be quite a bit more expensive elsewhere. It's in a small town near the mobile bay area and they offer room and board for your entire class schedule. Staff is relatively friendly and considerate. There is a possibility you may be sleeping in a bunk and share a room with several people {hope you don't mind snoring} but then if you are in the maritime industry you may already understand that boat life isn't exactly 5 star. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are provided as well. Do you like conecuh sausage? It's served in just about every meal in more than one way or another. Expect to gain about five pounds during your stay..."
"Had many interactions with both Sea School in Bayou La Batre as well as St. Petersburg, FL. The course is better today than it was 20 years ago, but then again, one would expect as much. Original course, Master/Mate,was done 20 years ago with an instructor. He was Very professional and took us through the course and explained anything we didn't understand. At that time, I had to test at a USCG REC. Passed the tests in one day first time. I just finished their On-Line course for OUPV and 100GT NC & Inland in order to get my license re-instated due to letting it expire for 10 years. When I had a question, I called or e-mailed and usually had the answer in a ,matter of a few hours, but never past the next morning. These courses are not really designed for those that are getting into "Sea Stuff" for the first time. I would suggest something with boat handling. Sea School is for those that have had time on the water and want to take their experience to another level. I am currently preparing to take their 5 Day Basic Safety Course. Considering 5 Day RADAR as well."
