Reviews of Cutting Edge Steel Roofing
"So you're considering a metal roof, here's what you want to know: **Will a metal roof mess up your cell reception? Answer, MAYBE, it depends. It did at my Grandpa's house, it did not at my house. It depends on your location relative to the local towers. My husband and I didn't have a problem with setting up some kind of repeater or WiFi routing system if it did affect cell signal in our house, but it turned out being a moot point for us, yay! **Will rain/sleet/hail be loud with a metal roof? Answer, NO. You're probably thinking of tin roofs on sheds with no insulation. The pitch of rain/hail hitting changed a very tiny bit - like maybe it's a little higher? - but not really anything noticeable. The volume definitely did not go up. **Why metal roof? Because they're screwed down with the seams hidden, they're much higher wind rated than asphalt shingle roofs. Their lifespan rating is much higher than asphalt shingle roofs. Metal roofs are considered the greener option since they're often made from recycled materials, and are more reflective, which can end up reducing heating load in a house. (The effect of less heat load in the winter is negligible; the sun's trajectory is so low and the cloud cover so often during the winter that heat sink from asphalt shingle in the winter is not a thing.) I haven't really noticed my cooling bills go down per se, so don't choose a metal roof thinking you're going a bank a fortune saving in AC costs. **Metal roofs actually weight a quarter to three quarters less than asphalt shingle (~1.4 lbs per sq ft vs 2-5 lbs per sq ft), so you can safely add them over a single layer of asphalt shingle rather than do a tear down. (If you have two layers of asphalt shingle, however, you will need the tear down per code). Now, specifically about Cutting Edge: Got a full layer of synthetic underlay and a standing seam metal roof installed from these guys in 2016. They were quick to come out to quote, very knowledgeable to answer the questions I had, fit me into their schedule in a timely manner, were good at communicating with me along the way, and finished the work in a day. Very neat and tidy install. They also did a standing seam metal roof & some gutters on my Grandpa's house circa 2009; both our roofs still look as great as the day they were installed. I've been very happy with it, and hope to remain happy for many years to come. Note, you'll have to pull the permit if you want/need one: they don't do that. I got about 5 quotes when I was getting my roofing done. Cutting Edge (quoting the standing seam metal) actually came in lower than some of the asphalt shingle quotes, if you'd believe it! Same with my coworker (who ended up using them upon my recommendation) and my Grandpa. They're very, very competitive. Not sure if they're still all Amish, but they were mostly Amish folk when I had my roof done, so that might factor in. I had also gotten a standing seam metal roof quote (exact same product, except a thinner gage) from Michigan Metal Roofs, and Michigan Metal Roofs quoted about 4x as much. It's a premium product, so they mark it up as such. I'm so thankful to have Cutting Edge available, who offer the same premium product without an enormous markup."
