"Dr. Sykes showed up late to the office. I had an 8:30am appointment, and around 8:15, I heard the receptionist tell the person who had an 8am appointment with him that Dr. Sykes hadn't arrived yet. When I finally got to meet with him, he did a very quick exam of my knees that was nowhere near thorough. He had my bend my knees one time and that was it. He mispronounced the name of a fairly common genetic disorder I have and then proceeded to prescribe exercises that I (or anyone with my condition) would not be able to do. His bedside manner also needs some work."
"Dr. Sykes was a very nice caring doctor he treated me with care and was very knowledgeable about what was going on with my injury. I would give him a 5 star but on the other hand his CCMA has failed me as a patient of his because I have paid my money for his CCMA to fill out my employer short term disability paperwork and she has failed to do that and it's been over a month. I have called and left SEVERAL voice-mail and emails and she fails to respond why h*** I don't know. So by her not doing so I had to return to work at 4 weeks instead of 6 weeks because of her failure it put me into a financial situation so that's why I'm giving the office a 2 star got to do alot better in that area."
"I saw Dr. Sykes bc I had dropped a 50# marble slab on the top of my right foot. The top of my foot was swollen w obvious discoloration. I had been awake most all night with it elevated and iced. After the xray his dx was a "bone spur" in the EXACT spot where the injury was. I had never experienced pain or discomfort in that area. At that point he asked could he do anything else for me. I requested " maybe a few lortab" just for a couple days. His response was that he would give me 5 tylenol#3. I told him that he could keep his prescription, that I would make do without anything he had. His affect had been completely flat since entering the room. He never smiled or made small talk in any way. I am a retired RN and am fully aware of the mind set of the profession concerning pain medications and was absolutely NOT drug seeking. I had an obvious injury. In the days that followed, my foot continued to be edematous and the coloration progressed until it was gone in about 1 1/2 weeks. I am very hesitant to believe that I just happened to have a "bone spur" in the exact location of the injury. I have no idea what he had going on that day but felt that MY care was subpar. I have used SportsMed for years and referred many friends to that service. This incident will not stop me from using my regular doctors but I will be hesitant to ever seen Dr Sykes again."
"I wish he had had the knowledge to send me to an orthopedic surgeon. He was convinced it was my back. His diagnosis delayed my treatment about 3 weeks. Also, I wish he had also ordered a hip MRI along with the back MRI. All of my pain was in the hip and groin area possibly brought on by a injury working in my yard. I had to wait until April 7 to see Dr. John Johnson, neurosurgeon. This appointment was made by the NP at my PCP office in early March! He is the dr who diagnosed hip bursitis."
"I highly recommend Dr. Matthew Sykes at SPORTSMED, Madison/Huntsville. I fell & broke my arm late one afternoon & he X-rayed & stabilized it. His staff cleaned & treated my other cuts & scrapes I received from impact onto a concrete slab. Dr Sykes was able to make arrangements immediately for me to have surgery on my arm by Dr. Matthew Owen, Surgeon, also with SPORTSMED. Left SPORTSMED on Hughes Road, where my friend, Mary, drove me downtown to Crestwood Hospital. Crestwood was waiting on my arrival. There Dr. Owen met me and I was in surgery within an hour. Woke up the next morning with extreme gratitude to these two wonderful doctors who repaired my broken arm. Did have physical therapy at the Hughes Road location a couple of times a week for a month and a half & now I’m back at work. No heavy lifting…10# tops, for several months. The Physical therapist were also great!"
