Reviews of Murner Amanda MD
"Lacks sympathy and integrity. Doesn't think black women deserve empathy when going missing, needs to "clarify" if they're "messy" first. Absolutely disgusting."
"My first time seeing a gynecologist was with Amanda Murner. The staff were nice and were able to fit me in having about 3 days notice. I was shown to an exam room quickly enough, and I didn't have to wait long to see her. The positive part of my experience ends there. She walked in with an intern (I assume) who didn't say anything. When she asked me questions about my personal life, relationships, medication, etc., I felt very judged. I felt very uncomfortable just having the intern observe. She participated in no way whatsoever (which would have made me feel more comfortable if I felt she were actually interested in patient care). She only stared at me and listened to Amanda tell me what was wrong with my situation. Amanda did not like at all that I wasn't on birth control. (She sees other women in my family, and knows that they have a bad track record with birth control). My sister has been on 5 different types of birth control and none worked for her. Even after I told her I did not want to be on birth control, she made me feel very small and ignorant for even considering a life without it. She prescribed me Yaz, telling me that it was what she took. Didn't tell me any negative side effects it might have, didn't tell me any precautions to take, didn't tell me anything about the drug. She told me to take TWO pills the first two times (since apparently I was behind according to my cycle). I took the pills and within a few hours I felt AWFUL. My heart rate slowed to about 40 bpm (I am not athletic or a runner in any way whatsoever, my normal resting heart rate is about 75). My whole body felt very hot and my head felt foggy and I just felt like I weighted 500 lbs. I called her office (she told me to call if I had any questions or concerns) and a nurse answered? (I think, I don't even know). She told me she would leave a message with Amanda and have her get back to me. I told her what was happening and the nurse acted like she had never heard of that side effect before. Almost like she didn't believe me. But she told me NOT TO STOP TAKING IT even after I informed her I was going out of the country in a week and I would be gone for 2 weeks. After I got off the phone with her I googled and found that apparently Yaz is one of the most controversial birth control pills out there, having over 10000 documented cases of lawsuits being filed against it. Some of which included people DYING from BLOD CLOTS (the risk of getting these is raised when on a long international flight, which is what I would be doing in 7 days). These lawsuits forced the company to change the name of their product from Yasmine to Yaz. A TON of people online reported the same side effects as mine. I called the number back and the same nurse talked to me. I asked her to please put me through to Amanda, but she was still "busy" so I told the nurse what I had found on google and she said they knew about the lawsuits but that 10000 was such a small sample size out of the total amount of people taking Yaz that it amounted to about 1%. Even so, NO OTHER birth control had any number of reports of this magnitude, and the nurse just kept dismissing my concerns saying that there was no way that they would ever prescribe something if they had any doubts about its safety. She also claimed that around the time of all the lawsuits they did not take ANY of their patients off of Yaz “that’s just how certain we are that it is safe” is literally what she said to me. She couldn’t answer any of my questions, and again said she would have Amanda get back to me. I never heard from Amanda. I am never going back to this gynecologist again. No matter what my personal life is, or what my choices are, I should not feel judged by a doctor. I would not recommend her to any of my friends. A gynecologist who would not tell their patient the controversies behind a birth control they are prescribing, and who won't even speak to the patient on the phone is not a gynecologist I think anyone should see."
