Reviews of Sloss Furnaces National Historic Landmark
"Sloss Furnaces is an outstanding example of a historical site that has been restored to be an educational tourist site. The site is full of informational plaques to share the history not only of the place, but also its impact on the city. If that isn't enough, it is also a site known for paranormal activity for all you ghost hunters. I have personally seen light orbs and had anomalies appear on video. Whichever interest you have, paranormal or historical, it is a great place to visit with the entire family."
"Get the drama of the iron age! The museum is light on content and the staff dozy but, hey, its free. The works themselves are dramatic and simply huge scale and well worth a visit. It was disappointing that you couldn't go into the tunnel or up any of the stairs to get an aerial view."
"Finally got the chance to briefly visit this piece of American history in early January. Been wanting to bring my camera here for years, and it didn't disappoint. It was a self guided tour and a slow day, so I got the whole place to myself. This vast beautiful fossil of America's industrial boom will require a long leisurely day to capture it right. Luckily there's a nice brewpub across the road from it. It was surprisingly accessible for my elderly dad, though I wouldn't recommend bringing pets or small children as there are many places for them to disappear, fall, or get stuck. Would be a fascinating tour through history and manufacturing for an older kid though."
"Such a cool place and even better that it’s free! You can take as much or as little time as you want. The map for the self guided tour is slightly hard to follow, but if you wander around you will hit all the stops. Highly recommend!!"
"We had the pleasure of touring during Furnace Fest, and it was breathtaking! Everything in here was so much bigger than we were, it was truly incredible and just like taking a step back into history. I’d like to thank David, who was working with Sloss, for taking the time to speak with us about the history and show us pictures of their ironworking from his own phone. I think it’s fantastic that they are bringing in artists to utilize some of this incredible space. We purchased an iron banana and a brussels sprout, made here, which we thought was a very cool concept. I can’t wait for their website to launch and follow more of their ironwork! I hope to visit again soon and take the full tour, it was an amazing time. We thank the entire Sloss team, for allowing us festival goers to tour a portion of this historical property, we loved it."
