Reviews of UAB Kidney and Pancreas Transplant Clinic
"I’d be happy if you guys would simply call me back. I shouldn’t have to call every day and honestly I shouldn’t have to leave more than one message a week. It’s highly unprofessional to keep not returning my call. It’s been 3 months and I’m a personal trainer and own a business where i work 70-80+ hours a week some weeks and I’m often spotting clients in the gym. When she does call I can call her back w in 3-5 min and NEVED GET AN ANSWER, or a call back. I will almost never be able to answer immediately during the day as I’m w clients all day and am often spotting them and pulling a cell out mid set could be dangerous and is unprofessional. I’ll call back bn sets or as soon as that session is over and nothing…nothing the next day and nothing tue next week. I’ve left her a voicemail explaining. I get y’all are busy but my coordinator won’t return calls for days or weeks, she finally called back after I complained to Fresinius (dialysis center) and had one of the nurses call. She’s changed her voicemail twice this time, changing it from at one point where it says she returns call w in 48 hours. Which was def not something she was doing. I’m going to give it one more week bc I haven’t called for a few weeks since calling multiple times and leaving multiple messages. I’m just not going to treat an adult professional that deals w potentially dying people, like a child I need to call and leave a voicemail to every day. So basically I have to be literally by my cell and have no job during the week so I can what? Sit around all day for weeks waiting on her call? I’d understand if it was just one day or even w in 48 hours. Feels like she just calls and when I’m not able to answer she checks it off her little list and moves on bc now she can say she tried and it’ll show she called me in their computer system. Which they made sure to tell me when I called. It’d doesn’t show is how many times I’ve called or called back and got no answer and another voicemail. It took one week to get a call back from the center in Tennessee. And that was w us playing phone tag a couple times. One week compared to 3 months. I’m so frustrated I can’t even sleep at night. So frustrated and demoralized w this. Im healthy and have lived a body healthy lifestyle and kidneys were destroyed by an autoimmune disease. My life has been completely thrown upside down and I can’t even get a call back to even get on the list at UAB which is 20 min from my home."
"Cancelled Monday surgery on a Sunday morning after spending 7 hours at the ER on a Friday night for further testing and receiving the all clear. Someone dropped the ball. Received a letter dated weeks earlier on scheduled surgery date that further testing was needed. If that was the case, surgery should have never been scheduled. We are out a lot of time and money because they jerked us around. Husband had a successul transplant less than a month later at another hospital. So UAB's further testing was unfounded."
"I went to UAB on 12/16/2022 to do my evaluation I was a little nervous because of my experience with Emory. It was almost 3 hour ride and I knew I needed to stay at least 6 hours well I did my bloodwork and then went to meet the transplant team . Everyone I met was awesome they all made me feel so comfortable and I trusted them I believe God thinks it’s time for me to get a healthy kidney so I can enjoy my life again I still have so many things to do so I’m not giving up my parents are still alive and I want to take care of them because I love them and I don’t want them to be mistreated and my sons and 4 grandkids I love them dearly and I will watch them grow up by the grace of God. Thank you all so much for making me feel at home and I know they do have angels walking this earth so thank you lord for saving me again I love you lord"
"My sister donated a kidney and the procedure was done at UAB. Not only did they completely cater to the physical needs of the patients, but the mental concerns as well for both patients and family. They updated the waiting family frequently and understand that it's not just organs, it's people also. Everyone was so friendly and LISTENED to concerns as well as just wanting to get to know you! The kidney transplant team is one of the BEST and it shows!"
"Most doctors are generally genuine, concerned, and care for their patients. I wish we could be assigned to one certain doctor and stay with that doctor, but I do understand how difficult that can be when yhey each have certain days they work in clinic and others in surgery. I have never met more loving concerned staff either. They are great. The transplant unit in the hospital is also wonderful. Of course I have my favorite nurses as I do doctors. Most staff at the hospital treat you like family. I even have a favorite housekeeper that calls me auntie. I've been truly blessed with the whole transplant family."
