Reviews of Noland Hospital
"This place should be closed down completely the director Nadine Thomas is a horrible director an nasty attitude. This lady is inappropriate on so many levels an shouldn't be leading this hospital .This place is sovery unprofessional .This lady should be terminated immediately I can't believe this hospital has not been sued yet or closed down because of her.People don't not send yo family here they simply don't care all the nurses do is collect a pay check no health care actually take place here ever .This women needs to be replaced immediately.Dont not bring yo loved ones here if you want them to live or care about the quality of their life period.I don't care how sweet the nurse is or how many lies this director tells you she is a compulsive liar an will tell you anything. Its truly unreal. We need to get these doors closed"
"Noland Hospital in Montgomery, AL is the Worst place to send your love one. This is a warning!!! I recently lost my mother due to covid-19 complications and poor care/medical treatment. Upon arrival to Noland, my mother was doing well. She came to this facility because she was told that she needed to come in order to be weaned off the ventilator. Within 3 days, her health decreased tremendously. The nurses didn’t close monitor her blood pressure, did not turn her every 2 hours as required (the bed sores worsened), and they lacked knowledge of their job. They weren’t familiar with her previous chart from Baptist East Hospital. THE FACILITY (NOLAND) IS UNKEPT. THE ROOMS AREN’T SANITIZED LIKE THEY SHOULD BE. My Mom ended up with staph infection due to the filthiness of the nurses and facility. One infection lead to another. Day or night shift nurses did not take the time to read and become familiar with her previous health conditions. All of them have really bad attitudes. They did not do a blood culture for days to see if my mother had infection or not. The team of doctors that works for them are HORRIBLE!!! Especially Dr. Patel. He has very poor bedside manners. None of them has compassion. My Mom passed due to septic shock. Which is a complication due to covid but it wouldn’t have gotten to this point (septic shock) if they had only took blood cultures to possibly treat the infection before it got out of hand. It’s so much more!!! If you truly love your family, spouse, etc. DO NOT TAKE THEM TO NOLAND."
"Were back again. My loved one had his third resperatory arrest in 5 years. Read my review from the past year below. It still applies. I know that NOLAND read my last review since I discussed it with numerous staff including the administrator. They made sure this time my loved one got no bed sore. That may be due in part to their having replaced all the old beds with brand new bariatric beds. They made sure my loved one got his baths regularly this time and that I do think made a world of difference. All in all this time arround while more serious in some ways things went better than last time. Again this is your only option in Montgomery, Al. You should read my past review. Pretty much everything I said back then still applies although I will say that they have improved quality of care noticably. My sister is a labaratory tech at Prattville Baptist and visted with me many times. She spends time talking to the nurses about the information in the charts to include his tests and chemicle levels etc... My sister understands the scientific and medical side of things, so I can say nurses at NOLAND know their stuff; as do the resperatory techs. I would not pay attention to some one star review suggesting otherwise; neither would I be able to point a finger at anyone at NOLAND and describe them as cold blooded and heartless as was mentioned in one of the reviews. There is one nurse I have called Nurse Rathcet a few times, but I do so more out of fun and jest. Nothing she ever did rose to the level that made me think to complain. I have had in excess of six months over two seperate hospitalizations to make my assessment and most of the staff that were there the first time were still there the second time more than a year later. The one star reviews are simply not true."
"Some of the nurses are wonderful. They really are loving, caring people. But there are a few of them that leave A LOT to be desired. They are rude, uncaring and all around mean. My husband was not able to get up on his own. When he would call for help, either they would take forever to come to his room or they wouldn’t show up at all. When they would, it was with a horrible manner. This place also needs some serious updating. It was clean enough, but very run down. My advice, make sure that you are certain your loved ones nurse is one of the nice ones. If not, you better be sure someone is there to help the patient. Because the horrible couple of nurses this place employs CERTAINLY will not. They need to fire the ones who are so mean. They would be MUCH better off. PS. If Beverly is your or your loved ones nurse, BEWARE. She is the rudest person I have ever encountered. How she has managed to keep her job is beyond me."
"Clean facility. Only two of the many members of the staff had serious attitude problems, but my complaints were addressed properly when I stood up to them and went over their head. Some of the staff are great; and the rest are all pretty decent people. You have 2 nurses and 2 respiratory therapists in addition to a charge nurse taking care of up to 36 patients on any given shift. There are a few other assistants to suppliment them. On occasion I felt they were under staffed for the number of patients and the amount of attention each one needs. This becomes a big problem when a patient goes critical and requires a whole team. There really should be a doctor on the floor 24/7, but there is not. One of the more uncomfortable issues I had to deal with is how the doctor to patient-family relationship is non existent. A number of doctors take turns rotating and call themselves Hospitalists. You will barely get to know who they are unless you live there. They make their rounds; write the orders; and then disappear. I got the distinct feeling they want to have as little to do with the patients as they can get away with, but that is not just them. It appears to be the trend everywhere. Not to say the doctors will not do their best to address your questions and issues when you do get to see them, but I have to say I always felt like I was being hurried by them which makes it easy to get flustered into forgetting to mention, or ask something important. The most serious issue was the stage 4 bed sore my loved one contracted during his stay at Noland. They were not turning my loved one over, nor were they cleaning the wound everyday like they should have done. I did not realise how bad it was until it got infected and smelled up the whole floor. They tried to tell me the smell was normal. I don't think so. That was when I put my foot down, but by then the damage was done. Even after the doctor wrote orders to change the dressings every day they were missing days. The staff did not take care of the bed sore the way they should have. Best advice I can offer you is to have a family member pretty much live in the room with your loved one. They have a fold out bed and an easy chair to use for that purpose and it is allowed. That is the main reason I give it 3 star thumbs up rating. You will not get a 4-5 star facility unless you are wealthy and connected. Not sure there even is another choice in Montgomery besides Noland anyway. The cable TV service is adequate. The cafeteria is nice and the prices are not outragious, but they are not cheap either. It was a scary 50 day experience for me, but my loved one made it despite a few close calls. Two of them because my loved one was not restrained. If the staff says your loved one needs to be restrained LISTEN TO THEM. There is a very good reason for it. This place is serious business peeps. Your loved one would not be in this facility if their condition were not serious. Be vigilent and most importantly try to drop in to visit (inspect) your loved one at least two to three times a day if you can't arrange for someone to stay 24/7. I was only able to spend on average 5 hours a day total and I got myself pretty stressed out and exhausted coming and going. I am glad that I learned to interpret the important readouts on the monitors and looked at them often. Beware your loved ones CO2 level building up when they come off the ventalator and progress to the collar. Watch that oxygen concentration readout on the monitor. It may be your eyes that save their life by sounding the alarm and getting them back on the ventalator in time. Were it not for me arriving one day at just the right time my loved one very well may not have made it since the staff had dropped the ball and were oblivious to the seriousness of the emergency until I walked into the room and immediately sounded the alarm. I recall the night two patients passed away one after the other despite the staff's best efforts. Forget trying to get a staff member to come to your room when that is going down. Visting hours are 24/7."
