Reviews of Merit Health Biloxi
"Nursing was very good. Food was great for hospital food. Doctors not in a hurry to discharge. Felt much better than when I arrived. However, ER admit personnel was disappointing. No eye contact or empathy just questions and WAITING."
"PLEASE DO NOT GO TO THE ER DEPARTMENT. I went here February 15, 2024. Maybe close to noon. My L5 is narrowing and my disc is bulging into my S1 nerve roots. My last MRI was in October 2023. I did see Pain Management one time and had a lower lumbar steroid injection on February 6th. No pain meds or anything, which isn’t what I want to be on. But after the injection I thought it helped some with the inflammation but February 14 it started to hurt a lot. This pain was the first time it has ever been this bad. I could barely sleep and when I did fall asleep I woke up and then could barely walk that day and it takes a lot for me to go to the ER. My surgeon was Dr. Terry Smith, who I do not refer anyone seeing at this point. After blowing up the front office reception of his, I was able to reach someone and I was instructed to go to the ER at Meritt since he was there and doing surgeries. Which I didn’t expect to have a surgery of course but his receptionist said they could at least page him when I arrived to further see what was wrong. After arriving at the ER, waiting, I explained to the nurse that checks you in what was going on. I was crying my eyes out bc the pain was intolerable. I explained fully that the pain took a 360 turn and I couldn’t feel most my toes and it was hard to pee and I was leaking pee, along with the numbness and extreme pain in both my legs and my lower back. I did tell them about Dr. Smith being my Dr The ER, NP-C Nathaniel Rayborn came in the room that they call you back into to get more information and your vitals. I was crying my eyes out from the amount of pain I was in. He said he would page Dr. Smith and see what he recommended. I was then place in the room next to the one I was in, which is just a separate patient waiting room, not an actual patient room with a bed. They also had student training that day too. Anyways, my daughter was with me thank goodness and we waited for almost 45min I think. NP-C Rayborn came back in the room and said that Dr. Smith advised me to follow up with Pain Management and there wasn’t anything they could do for me. I was still crying my eyes out and begging for them to please help me. He said, “Sweetheart I know you hurt, I had something similar to this years ago and the pain is nothing like I ever felt and I told my wife (I think he said he wife) that if that was to ever happen again to just shoot him in the head.” Well Mr. Rayborn you win ER jackass of the year with that comment buddy. He then kinda of shrugged his shoulders and said he guess he could give me a shot to help with pain and then prescribe me 800mg ibuprofen and 10mg muscle relaxers. Which did nothing and does nothing for what I was experiencing. The same nurse who checked me in for my vitals, who I did think was nice at first, came back and told me to follow her to the next empty room across the hall to give me the shots. I was limping and slowly walking bc I could barely walk. She fast paced walked in front of me, and then had the audacity to peek back out the room and say, “Are you good?” All I could do is pause and stare at her with tears in my eyes. She gave me my shots and did tell me she hoped I feel better. She gave my daughter my discharge papers and said we were good to go. No one offered me a wheel chair at all, and granted I could have asked my daughter to get me one but the absolute lack of compassion in today health field is utterly disgraceful. I had to wait for my daughter to go get the car; park and help me walk to the car. I was made to suffer in pain. The next day I needed up going to the ER in Pascagoula and the Doctor there was appalled that no one did another MRI. To turn out I have more damage to my L5 and more than likely permanent nerve damage in my right leg."
"Everyone was nice but they took forever with the results and today when my husband boss called about the doctors note they gave them Dr. Carter told them when he's able to go back to work and everything. He violated patient confidentiality and his reasoning behind it is because my husband willingly told his boss wat he was seen for but it doesn't matter they still don't have the right to tell them anything other than yes he was seen there last night. My husband signed the papers stating they are not allowed to give anyone any information"
"Most of the nurses are very friendly and helpful. The nurse assigned to do my check in was nice during the process but once she was done with that she never checked on me and it was a two hour wait before procedure. I would have to ask other nurse that were passing by for assistance to lower bed rails so I could use bathroom"
"Everyone in preop was wonderful and I went into my surgery calm and comfortable. Dr. Terry Smith is an excellent surgeon and did a wonderful job explaining everything to me so that I could understand exactly what was happening. With one exception, all of the nurses and staff on my floor were great. They went out of their way to take excellent care of me and keep me as comfortable as I could be while recovering from surgery. The one exception to that is the reason I gave a four star rating and not a five star rating. We did have one nurse who was very brusque, very often did not do what she told me she was going to do, and every time we left a message for her at the nurses station she said she didn’t get the message, and they said she had. One expects a nurse to at least be kind, and she was not. It made a necessary stay in the hospital more unpleasant than it needed to be. But everyone else was great and I would use Merit Health again, as long as I had a different nurse!"
