Reviews of Casper Automotive
"**Resubmitting my review as it doesn’t show up after I posted it. I will not be silenced.** changed my star rating to a three only so it would be seen. Actual rating would be no stars. Stewed on this for over a year before posting. I was familiar with one of the part owners as he had previously purchased a vehicle from me when I worked at a local car dealership. During his purchase I told him that I appreciated him buying from me and to return the favor, I would send my sons car to his shop (Casper Automotive) to replace a leaking valve cover gasket. Anyone who owns an older BMW knows that this is a common problem with these cars and thus every local shop can replace them relatively quickly. In fact I’ve replaced a number of them before in my own garage. Not a big job, especially for a shop. But out of appreciation for his business I went with them for the job. After dropping his car off my son asks me why they were revving his engine while they were pulling the car into the garage. My fault for not calling them immediately, but I was at work. Three hours after dropping the car off I get a call saying that the car was idling on the lift and…….the engine seized…!! I was blown away and mentioned that my son told me they had been revving the engine while pulling it into the garage. His car has an electronic gear selector and if the door is open when you try to move it, it will go into park as a safety feature (hence the revving). They were trying to pull the car in with the door open and when the car would slam in park, their momentum would force their foot forward, which explains what my son saw and heard as he was leaving. The guy I spoke with assured me that when that happened that he can verify that the rpm’s never got above 2k… think about that. Any car guy knows that that would be virtually impossible. He said he can confirm that the engine is seized since he was able to but a wrench on the engine to manually try to turn it since the starter wouldn’t and he heard something snap internally. They said that the engine was about to blow anyway and it just happen to lock up when they had it and that we (me and my son) lucky that it happened there and not while he was driving it. They also said that it was out of oil, not knowing that we knew it was leaking oil and literally just added some the day prior (receipt to prove). Lind story short, they said they weren’t liable and that they would give me a discount on labor for an engine replacement. No thank you, if you couldn’t change a valve cover gasket without locking the engine up, I wouldn’t trust you to do an engine swap. They also offered to get it towed for a second opinion…after he admitted to snapping something inside the engine. I waited a few weeks because this was Christmas time 2021 then arranged to have them tow it to my ex wife’s house until I could buy a new engine. Got a call from who I believe was the other co-owner (heavier set bald guy) and he was upset that it was being sent to a residence and not another shop so he wouldn’t pay the tow bill, so I did. Even tried to make it seem like we should be grateful for them not charging us storage while the car was there. Along with $8k (in total for engine, install, disposal and misc fees) to get my sons car back on the road. I never had cross words with them, not my style then again neither is leaving a negative review. But I never got so much as an apology and instead we were blamed and made to feel like they did us a favor. To be fair, the guy I sold the vehicle to isn’t the one who was being difficult, it was the bigger guy. Do your research before trusting them with your vehicle. I have receipts for everything including text messages. Zero stars."
"They fixed my vehicle after another mechanic shop sabotaged my vehicle in order to make more money off me. Will never go anywhere else ever again."
"The mechanics were very professional and pleasant. They saved my day for me. I had a horrible experience some were else and they were nice enough to take my car right and get it fixed and back on the road in an hour. Very reasonable pricing. I would highly recommend them for repairs from here on out. Hands down the best in book that I have found in a long time when it comes to honest mechanics."
"Had my A/C unit fixed. They aren't the fastest, but they did it right and didn't charge an arm and a leg. I will take quality over speed everytime when I'm paying for auto repair."
"Despite the appointment that I missed, they were able to reschedule my appointment to get my vehicle looked at. They kept me informed throughout the entire process and let me know exactly what was wrong with my vehicle. They ordered the parts that I needed and scheduled me a time to get the repairs done. They charged me a fair price for all repairs. Now my vehicle drives as smooth as butter. I highly recommend anyone needing their vehicle looked at and repaired to give Casper Automotive their business!"
