Reviews of avid hotel Madison - Huntsville West, an IHG Hotel
"Hotel is very modern looking and clean. Some of the construction, particularly in the bathroom was rushed and you can tell, but it’s nice. Biggest issue is noise. There’s ZERO padding anywhere other than the beds and hallway so when you walk, or your vertical neighbors walk, you can clearly hear it. But all the other stuff makes it’s a worthwhile hotel. I’d stay again."
"The rooms are newer with modern amenities, however they are smaller than some other hotels. Free breakfast with some hot options, there is a laundry machine that isn't mentioned on their website. Service is great, they are quick to respond and very courteous. The location is next to a gas station which seems to have a certain group of customers that like to come and rev their cars in the evening, it has happened 8 out of the 10 nights I have been here. Also there are train tracks nearby, which cross over a street, and every night there has been a train crossing and you hear the horn. Still nice new hotel, just wish the car club wasn't mustering at the gas station every night, and a break from the train horn in the evening would be good."
"I'm an IHG member and after driving 8 hours this hotel wouldn't let me check in early even though they had availability. They wanted to charge me for 2 full nights. I wouldn't of even stayed a full 24 hours as I am traveling for business. I say beware of a property who won't accommodate its guests."
"I came here for business for about a week and a half. The location is kind of in a weird area. It has three hotels co-located off the highway and it's next to a gas station. There are no restaurants that close by, but a five minute drive can get you something quick. The Walmart is close by as well. The room was clean and everything functioned correctly. The USB charging ports on the wall outlets and the nightstand were convenient. The shower had a decent amount of room. The bathroom didn't have a holder mounted on the wall for your hand towel. I had the single king size bedroom. There wasn't any closet space at all. This wasn't a deal breaker but can be an issue if you are traveling for more than a couple of days and like to place your things in the closet. There also wasn't any dressers or drawers to place other items of clothing either. The walls, floors, and ceilings were paper thin. You can hear a lot of noise from the adjoining rooms. I swear every time my alarm went off it would wake up the person next door. I could hear kids bumping in the rooms above and luggage wheels on the floor as well. Breakfast was ok. It had two automatic coffee makers and a good bit of creamers to choose from. They would have these Jimmie Dean biscuits every now and again with an assortment of juices to choose from. The internet was high speed with no interruptions."
"Book with caution. I was driving from Ohio to Louisiana and needed a place to stay midway through on June 25-26, so I booked a room here several days in advance. I arrived around 7 p.m. (check in starts at 3 p.m.), exhausted after 10 hours of driving by myself, and the guy at the desk nonchalantly shrugs and says, “Yeah, so I actually just gave my last clean king bed room away, our housekeepers are behind. Maybe come back in a half an hour?” I offer to leave and get food and come back. One thing that also struck me as odd was that the parking lot had maybe 10-15 cars max in it, so clearly it wasn’t a fully booked hotel that night. About 40 minutes later, after going to eat down the road, I returned, and the front desk was empty. I ring the bell, no response. A woman comes in behind me, peaks her head into the back office and yells “hello?”, and no response. After a couple minutes the same guy arrives. He looks at the computer again to see if a room’s ready, then he tells me, “So I’m going to check you into a room, but I’ve gotta go see if it’s clean after I check you in.” At this point, I’m not about to stay in a room that we’re not even sure is clean, and I’m DEFINITELY not about to wait longer considering it’s almost 8 p.m., so I ask if I can have another room different from the one I booked. Luckily, the guest behind me stepped in and reminded the guy at the desk that she had just requested to be moved from her room to a different room due to the location of the room earlier that evening and that he could just assign me the room she had moved out of. Good enough for me. He gave me a key, and the room was (luckily) in tact, bed made, shower clean, all that jazz. Before I fell asleep and after I woke up, I also heard some sort of noise at my door, which was also a little alarming, especially because I was by myself, but that also just could have been my own paranoia or the fact that my room was right across from the elevator. I made it out alive and well so I guess all is well there. If I could go back in time I’d probably just spend a few extra bucks to book a room somewhere else nearby and save myself the hassle."
