"My view from a crew boat I work on. Wished the County or state would fix it up a little."
"Great fishing hole around light house, but be careful, the current is strong and your boat will be pulled into the rocks"
"This is what remains of a small island that once had structures on it. The lighthouse marks the channel leading into Mobile bay. Once entering the bay at sand island Mariners would then set coarse towards middle bay light navigating to Mobile and other ports within the bay.. Two light keeper families tendeded to the sand island lighthouse. This is actually the 4th lighthouse built on the island and was manned up to 1921 when it became automated and eventually deactivated in 1971. Numerous attempts since the time of construction have been made to preserve the land around the lighthouse but violent storms and strong sea currents have quickly eroded all land where once stood buildings and residence for the light keeper tenders. It is only accessable by boat and is nearly impossible to explore due to the jagged rocks surrounding the house."
"The Pelicans were kinda iffy. They kept looking at me like I was crazy. I mean yeah it was kinda foggy. Yeah I came out of nowhere. Yeah I kept pointing my phone at them. But come on dudes. It's an awesome sight. Enjoy!"
"Beautiful brick lighthouse situated precariously on the remnants of Sand Island. Can only be accessed by boat, but worth visiting as it doesn't have much time left before it collapses into the Gulf. When we visited it in 2014, the Keeper house was long gone and the light sat atop a pile of rocks with stabilizing cables that were starting to give way."
