Grand Bay National Wildlife Refuge
About the Business
Grand Bay National Wildlife Refuge is a park and tourist attraction located at 6005 Bayou Heron Road in Grand Bay, Alabama, United States. Visitors are encouraged to start their tour at the Grand Bay Coastal Resources Center’s interpretive center to learn about the diverse habitats and wildlife found at the refuge. Established in 1992, the refuge helps protect the endangered Gulf Coast wet pine savanna habitat, with only 3% remaining across its original range.
Covering 10,188 acres, the refuge partially overlaps the Grand Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve, totaling nearly 18,000 acres of undisturbed wildlife habitat. Habitats include wet pine savanna, maritime forest, wetlands, salt marshes, bays, and bayous, providing a unique opportunity to observe a variety of species.
Visitors may encounter American alligators, large reptiles related to crocodiles, as well as gopher tortoises, terrestrial turtles with distinct features. The refuge offers opportunities for conservation efforts, nature education, and outdoor activities, with partnerships with volunteers, youth groups, and communities.
By working together to conserve and protect wildlife and their habitats, visitors can make a lasting difference for the benefit of the American people. Please note that links provided do not constitute endorsement by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

"Went to the interactive visitor center and it was void of any human interaction. Nope. Not a soul. No maps, information or advice. We drove to the river and left the same way. Your tax dollars hard at work."
"What an amazing place.... we traveled far and wide before arriving here at Grand Bay. .. it was worth every mile. Every minute was filled with an amazing experience!!! Definitely family friendly."

"Great spot for a trucker to rest! Vending machines don't work so you better have snacks in the truck and the restrooms are so so....."
