Reviews of Empire Street Bar & Grille
"First time visiting and would definitely return. This is my kind of spot. It is off the beaten bath but still right around the corner. Avoid the crowds and come here. I had a drink and some wings, but many items on the menu looked great. I was worried that it was going to be diner food that was warmed from frozen; not a chance. They have daily specials like chicken parmesan and cubans. You don't just casually throw those together. Their dry rub wings are smoked in-house (technically out back), and the flavor execution is on point. I took the recommendation and requested the classic buffalo (just in case), a sweet heat, and the bacon bbq. I must not be good at reviews because I didn't make it past the bacon bbg. It was perfect. I shared some with a self-proclaimed wing-lover and he was Quite pleased. Even as leftovers, they were really nice. As for service, bartending is a skill that many people take for granted. I do not. I like a bartender who knows the food and the drinks. They'll recommend what's good but also give someone the space to get to know the menu. They know when to chat people up to make them feel welcome but also when to give someone their space. The bartender who was there when I visited was perfect. A pleasant greeting that communicated midwest welcome but downtown strength (just in case I was an unsavory character). Kindly and patiently answered all my newbie questions that made me seem like I was new to the big city. Afterward, she withdrew to the far end of the bar to talk with a mix of regulars and employees. You could tell this place was Cheers for most of them. I paid and left with a smile on my face, listening to their laughter as I walked out the door."
"That empire burger is simply amazing. Scott, my server is a fast footed guy, and prices are very reasonable. The atmosphere is calm and great for pregames, and Colts games!! also very close to a hotel"
"Came here with my family. Quiet little place which means more attention from server/bartender. Food was excellent. Love that the chef asks how everything is and accepts feedback. You don't find that with chefs. Will be back and will recommend."
"We wandered into this little restaurant, not knowing what to expect. We were pleasantly surprised at the atmosphere, the good food, and the great service I recommend it to anyone who wants an out-of-the-way place for good food and adult beverages."
"Great service and food! What a nice place. This place is relatively new and it was a pleasure to try it out. We got the pizza and quesadilla. Some of the best ones we’ve had. Its served on like a toasted flatbread and was delicious. The waitress was very personable without being too overbearing and was always accessible when we needed something. She was also really good at refilling our waters and kindly let us modify our order for an allergy. The place was clean and organized even though we were there at the end of the day. I’d highly recommend you try this little place out! On the negative side, we weren’t immediately greeted. (They might need a bell so that they know when customers walk in or a sign saying whether to grab a seat or wait to be seated because it was a little awkward) Spoiler: You choose your seat. They did charge extra for sour cream when the quesadillas were very tiny (although kudos to our waitress for letting us know the size was small beforehand) and with it being 8$ to begin with, it seemed like a lot pricewise, but we thought the pizza price was reasonable. On the way out I almost slipped on the front step because it is small and angled really steep forward. I hope they can redo that because it seems like an injury waiting to happen, so be careful >.> I think these things are easily fixable and seeing the effort they put in, I’m sure it’ll get even better. In the end, we went for food and the food was delicious."
