Reviews of Old Railroad Bridge
"The Old Railroad Bridge is a beautifully preserved historical landmark in Lauderdale County. The Old Railroad Bridge has lots of history behind it. The bridge not only carried railroads on the top, but also had a lower deck for other traffic. This closed in 1939 with the opening of the O'Neal Bridge. The surviving 1560-foot long lower deck has been restored to serve as a walking trail. With the original piers a part of the present structure, it is the oldest river bridge in Alabama. There's a newly added Restroom available on site just before reaching the bridge along with access to TVA walking trails. The Old Railroad Bridge is a peaceful and quiet place to take a relaxing stroll, enjoy fresh air, and take advantage of some cool photo ops! There's nice views of the Tennessee River, O'Neal Bridge, The Dam, Renaissance Tower, etc. The wood boards have been replaced and you feel sturdy and secure. If you walk to the end you'll get to see the infamous "Panty Tree" :)"
"Great views from bridge. Easy walking. Well maintained."
"Beautiful views! Nice short walk. Trailhead too."
"We’ve been to Florence for years. I’ve lived here twice. But this was our first time to the Old Railroad Bridge. This little gem is a must see. We’ll definitely go back. It’s well lit at night and the view of the Tennessee River is awesome from both sides of the bridge. You can see the Renaissance Tower, Wilson Dam and McFarland Park. Beautiful view."
