Big Dan's Hamburgers 5925 Massachusetts Avenue, Indianapolis, IN 46218

"This is a classic smash burger joint. Less than ten items on the lunch menu. Food: The burger flavor is solidly plain. No seasoning and smashed. That's not terrible; I'm just speaking straight. The serving size is good. The sesame seed bun falls apart. Service: Expect a burger joint/diner. The lady at the register is exactly as nice as she needs to be to take your order. You get the distinct in impression she would also be great as a bouncer, pawn shop employee, mob boss, or BMV worker. This is not criticism; I just don't want you showing up expecting to be pampered. Atmosphere: Again, do not expect one of these trendy burger restaurants. It is a burger joint in a no-collar to blue-collar neighborhood. Price: a bit steep for what you get. I ordered the double with fries, and it ran me over $11. Again, the portion was decent, but it's probably more like a $8-$9 meal, and even then, they should throw in a small drink."

"Was looking to try a hole in the wall burger diner while in town, excited to try this from the pictures, and while it was pretty good it didn’t all go as well as expected. First time going I read the menu and nowhere did it say cheese when listing what was on the burgers, not being able to eat dairy I was glad that was one less thing to say. We ordered two big dans and two double dans, two fries, and a pop. Realized once I got my receipt that he had added and charged me for cheese on all the burgers. So I had to wait back in line to get the order cleared up. As I got to the window the burgers were already ready. I told him we couldn’t have dairy and didn’t order cheese for the burgers. He wrote down our order again. Him and the rest of the guys in the kitchen seemed annoyed and upset. He gave me our fries and we had to wait for our new burgers. Once we got those they didn’t have any toppings on two of them and one didn’t have any condiments. So I had to go back up again and ask for all the stuff that was missing from our burgers. After assembling what was missing from the burgers they were pretty good, smashed Patties with some flavor and huge size. Only downfalls was the Patties were kinda dry and they used miracle whip not Mayo. The fries were cooked well and not over salted. While it didn’t wow me I would try it again but I wouldn’t make a trip to Indy just to have it."

"Its been 10+yrs since I ate at Big Dan's. Only because a lot of locations shutdown. 2 main locations near me shut down. Big Dan's seemed to have gone out of business. I couldn't understand why because they were killin' ALL the fast food competitors. I recently found out that a new location opened several miles from me. Very exciting! I did not visit the new location today but while on the east side of Indy I discovered a Big Dan's! Drove right by it and busted a U right away! Got a burger and it was just the way I remembered it. Very good!! People their were great too! I'm looking forward to introducing my daughter to the new Big Dan's near us. Unlike Dunkin Donuts- Big Dan's is worth revisiting 100%"

"I got this place for lunch. The burgers had good flavor, had a nice sear, were a good size for the money. The fries were really good and were the best part of my meal. What turned me off is the wait time which I could've offset by pre-ordering but it was kind of last minute decision. I wasn't able to finish my burger. Not because of the size, but because I got a piece of gristle or something that was too hard to break down with my teeth. For 2 out of 3 bites i had to try to figure out what i was chewing and I was done. The lemonade appeared to be but did not taste freshly made instead it tasted like a powdered drink mix. Since all the flavors were good I'm willing to try it again sometime if that's the only burger spot open."
