"They set a bad atmosphere upon the "rule" lecture when you walk in. It's not what was said as much as how it was said. You don't scold customers. Mandating tips is unacceptable. I usually give a minimum 15% for basic service. 20% for a little effort and 25% for excellent. Being mandated to pay 18% is insane. Paying extra to pay with a card is nuts. No refunds? Ugh. I have never requested a refund when dining out, but telling me that I just have to accept what you present no matter what? Not cool. I'm kinda feeling there's some stereotype discrimination going on here. Up the menu prices, pay your employees a livable wage and announce tipping extra is appreciated but, not necessary. Then the server is motivated knowing they receive a consistent salary and if they're really good at their job, might get a bonus via tipping. We decided to order a pick up order from there instead. Food was disappointing but, at least I didn't have to pay 18% on top of the mediocre food. Food is not at all the same as when they were in Hyde Park. Quantity being scaled back is understandable. Quality should not suffer though. What's up with the peach cobbler? I can throw canned peaches and a flour concoction together at home. Fried tomatoes were so thin they'd be better off not offering them. Very disappointing overall."
"The place has a nice setup...soft Creole-style music playing in the background. I started with fried green tomatoes. These here were solid, probably some of the best fried green tomatoes I've had from a restaurant. They came out hot and fresh...seasoned perfectly. I use the hot cakes as bread to make a sandwich with a few generous dabs of hot sauce too...chef kiss. 9.5. Next I went with the gumbo and this was another winner hands down. Again came out hot and packed with flavor. The gumbo came with rice and there was no bad bite with this here. 9.2. Lastly, I got the catfish strips which are a nice-sized serving too 8.8. The customer service was decent, nothing crazy here. Overall yeah they add 18% gratuity and a fee for credit cards smh. Minus that I left happy my boi....9.1"
"The young man greeting was was a bit abrupt, I greeted him and said three people. He greeted me and waited for me to greet him again before he said do you know our rules, I said no since this was my first time there. He said it was one check 18% gratuity added and if we paid with a card there was a fee added. We said ok. I had only heard of places like this, this was my first experience at one. The atmosphere of the restaurant was great, it was cajun. And they placed cajun music in the background. The food was okay, salty. Order collared greens and they were gritty from the first bite so they brought me the Mac snd and cheese which was really good. Very creamy. I will not be going back."
"Came on a Thursday afternoon when Dixie Kitchen wasn’t as busy compared to a weekend. The food was excellent, the service was fast and friendly! The food was fresh! I ordered the gumbo bowl, fried green tomatoes and pork chops it came out in a decent manner and the drinks got me lit!"
"The best dining experience I've had since I've been in Chicago. Food was delicious. Full of flavor. Service was impeccable. 10 out of 10. Don't miss this experience."
