Reviews of Southern Egg Cafe
"This is a hidden gem in my opinion, great food, great service! 100% worth visiting. 10/10 will be back again! We came for lunch portions were perfect, not overpriced. Service was top notch! Staff very friendly, drink never empty. Food was delicious. Zero complaints! Can’t wait to come back and try breakfast!"
"We found this jewel next to one of our fav antique stores around the corner and on the way to the farmer’s market on Saturdays. Nothing but positive to report after many breakfasts there. Never had anything not fresh and tasty, and we’ve tried a variety of things. Return often to great burrito and omelette menu and a pancake. Owner Pedro goes the limit to give you a good experience as does his staff. We enjoy several breakfast places but can’t go long without our Southern Egg Cafe fix. Mitzi Martin & Jeff Atwood"
"Came by for lunch / breakfast for lunch with my mom this week for our weekly outing together. This small local spot is near the old Grissom High School / new south Huntsville library. Parking is ample, although super-close parking is a little bit harder to come by. Seating is very limited and it would probably be very hard to sit together if you came in a group larger than 4. None of that was a problem for us, though! We were comfy in our booth. Business was moderate at about 11:30 on a Friday. They have pretty much every American breakfast item you could ever want: BYO omelet or burrito, pancakes, French toast, all manner of eggs, biscuits and toast, grits, multiple potato options. Also some standard lunch options (hamburgers, club sandwiches) and meat+3 plate lunches to include catfish and other southern classics. On the day we visited, they had pork tamales and huevos rancheros on special. Yum! Breakfast and lunch only here, fyi. The place was clean and had a very high health department rating. I don't know that I'd say the service was effusively friendly, but they were certainly polite and running a very tight and efficient ship. Our food came out quickly, correctly, and piping hot. I thought the price was reasonable at ~$30 for two large entrees and two drinks. My mom had two eggs over easy with a biscuit, hash browns, and bacon. The bacon amount was generous and she said her eggs were cooked perfectly. The biscuit was a little dry - presumably leftover from the breakfast rush - but plenty good with some butter. We both enjoyed sweet tea to drink. I ordered the "sweet beginnings:" two eggs (I asked for scrambled), French toast (added bananas), and hash browns. It was all yummy! The French toast was a little thinner cut than I expected but it was cooked just right and the bananas were a wise addition for a small extra cost. I typically prefer my scrambled eggs cooked a little runnier than the ones I got but I certainly understand why they cook them very thoroughly and I probably could have asked for them runnier. Mom and I both loved our hash browns. So often places get the top crispy but the bottom undercooked, but these were perfect. Crunchy on top and soft and fluffy beneath! Overall, complaints are very minor and we had an enjoyable time together. We will certainly be back in the future for more French toast and hash browns!"
"This is a nice little quiet neighborhood place. This was our 2nd visit. I had the Veggie Delite, which is made with egg whites & my husband had Southern Style Chorizo. Both dishes were delicious. The waiter kept the coffee coming. But one thing to note:. There is a 3% extra charge if you use a credit card."
"Just a wonderful, quaint little eatery. Around 15 tables and booths, so if you have a crowd, you'll have to spread out. I was seated as soon as I walked in and treated like family. The menu is a basic menu of down home eats. I ordered the "Southern Egg Breakfast with Bacon with biscuit". The food was made to order and brought out pretty quickly. My regular readers know I am a picky SOB when it comes to eggs over easy, and they absolutely nailed them. There was enough food to satisfy most diners. Everything was fantastic! The staff treat everyone like they were a either family or a reviewer (I NEVER tell folks they are being reviewed). I made a followup visit and was certainly not disappointed. This has to be one of the best breakfasts in Huntsville. Try it, you shan't be sorry!"
