"I ordered 17 cubic yards of the “soil conditioner” product on May 18, 2023. It was delivered on Monday May 22nd. First let me review the product. I bought this product for my residential yard to be spread manually onto the yard and into holes created after my lawn was aerated. This product created a huge amount of additional work for me. It contained a lot of large clods of something that looks like clay. I am trying to amend the clay I already have. I didn’t need more. Even if it is good material, the size of the clods makes it unusable. It also contained a significant amount of gravel and rocks. One of the rocks I would estimate at 35lbs. To be able to use the product for the intended purposes, I had to rake out the stuff I couldn’t use. That probably doubled the time I spent on this project. It also means I will have a large pile of unusable material that I will have to get hauled off. I will have to pay someone for this! Unless you have a large farm and are going to use this material in your commercial sized field where it will be dealt with using large equipment, this product is useless. It is definitely not for a residential lawn. Now let me review customer service. For my original request I filled out the Contact form on the website. I did this on March 10th. I wasn’t in a hurry at the time as the aeration wasn’t happening until May. Well, April 21st rolled around, and I still hadn’t received a response. I filled out another Contact form and sent an email. I did get a response to the email. So, I don’t recommend the Contact form. You can call also, but I prefer to have information in writing. The response by email – from Angie – only answered some of my questions. I was asking questions like – was the material fine enough to go down into aeration holes. She did suggest that I come down and check out the material for myself. That was a fair request, and I did drive over to see it. It looked decent examining the large pile of material without digging into it. Unfortunately, I could not see all the problems hidden inside. I had to trust that they did a good job creating and maintaining the usability of the material. That trust has been broken. Billy was the driver that delivered the material. He was very personable and did a great job making sure that he dumped it where I needed it. He was the one bright side of my entire experience. The picture provided with this review is only a portion of the unusable material. I have not gone through all the material yet and there is quite a bit of gravel and rocks that got into the wheelbarrow early on – before I learned what I had to do – that were pulled out while I was in the backyard. I changed this review from 2 star to 1 star after trying to get the owner's contact information to discuss the terrible experience I had with this material. I am being completely ignored."
"I've come to learn this place can be a mixed bag on what you get depending on the loader. Paid the same amount, 3 days apart and got a good fill vs lackluster. This isn't a one-off experience. I don't usually leave a negative review-everyone can have a bad day. But, I keep experiencing this dichotomy of standards based on one loader in particular. Judge for yourself."
"My experience with Brownsferry Mercantile was such that I wanted to inform everyone to find somewhere else to purchase your landscaping materials, especially if you are purchasing top soil. While the attached pictures will tell the story I should add that I called and complained to Angie. Sent her the pictures, explained the 4th pic with the items is from one wheelbarrow load...4 rocks, some twine, a piece of glass, bottom of a tennis shoe, and a cotter pin. As to the soil, she did not apologize for sending red clay fill dirt with with what I estimate to be 50% clods instead of top soil, just tried ending the call multiple times. Had hoped the owner or manager would call to apologize or offer some sort of olive branch, but it has now been two weeks..."
"Ordered 5 yards of topsoil to try and cover roots and do a bit of leveling with. Received 5 yards of mostly clay boulders that a shovel couldn't pierce along with numerous amounts of foliage and branches. Did what I would could to spread what I could but decided it was not worth the struggle. I am very fortunate to have someone with a dump trailer and land to take this mess to but money, time, and effort are wasted."
"Used these guys a few times, their material prices are good. Decent prices on landscaping work. Quality of work over the years has went from great to abysmal. Oversold what they were capable of, cutting corners on everything, leaving stuff unfinished. Tremendous waste of money on several projects that I had to end up doing myself. Highly encourage everyone to look elsewhere for landscaping project work. Edit: Added pictures of their work because not a day goes by I dont regret calling them. The stumps I paid them to remove with their excavator are starting to grow back, because they just covered them with a little dirt. These guys are worse than hacks, they are purposely not doing work that they were paid to do, and literally covering it up."
