"Great park, great outside atmosphere with nature trails through the forest, a covered pavilion, and a nice beach setting at the lake to enjoy on a summer day. Baseball diamonds are also established here. Picnic areas are well spread around offering a bit of privacy. The atmosphere feels like a day at a campground with plenty of space for picnics and just minutes from downtown Allegan. Quick history about Little John: Flavius Josephus Littlejohn, a prominent lawyer from New York, shifted his life's trajectory due to illness and migrated to Michigan in the early 19th century. Settling in Allegan County with his family, he resumed legal practice but was also engrossed in surveying, geology, and documenting Native American folklore under the pen name "Old Trailer." Littlejohn's involvement in Michigan's legislative circles ultimately led to his pivotal role in spearheading the abolition of capital punishment. His active engagement in the House of Representatives and later as a Senate member led to the passing of a bill that abolished capital punishment for first-degree murder in Michigan, marking a historic move in American legislative history. Littlejohn's legacy extended beyond this triumph, with a varied political career, judicial service, and influence on aspiring lawyers, reflecting a life defined by both legal acumen and significant societal impact. He passed away in 1880, leaving behind a remarkable legacy celebrated during his grand funeral."
"It was a great place to have our party. It has bathrooms and a pavilion that anyone can use. It also has a playground for the little kids to play. With water access you can do all you want."
"I’ve been creating paths throughout the park for 7 years now in an effort to get a layout for a disc golf course there."
"Littlejohn County Park Pullman Allegan area. Great well traveled paths however they are not really marked. It looks like they started to mark the trails but probably with Covid it is not a major priority but honestly it was well matted and you could see where the trail led. Could you get lost??? Potentially but you probably would find yourself getting more into a loop I would think. We did 3 miles but there is many trails to go on we decided to hike the most matted one. I will say they did spray the roots so that was very helpful. It is a huge park but there is only a little parking that is open about 10-12 car spots currently. I am sure in the summer the place is an amazing place to visit. So much to do there, park for kids, basketball court in a weird spot, picnic areas that were bountiful. Great hiking for sure. There was no one on the trail except us and it was great. A bunch of inclines weird curly pines. A great spot for short to longer hike with medium inclines. The only part that is ADA is the beginning part that goes to the lake otherwise it all all foot no wheel."
"I took five kids here, ages 9-12 on an 87 degree day looking to swim. This was our first trip here. The parking lot was great, the bathrooms could use an upgrade, and the pavillion and playground looked nice from afar. A family was having a party the entire time we were there so we checked out the beach. The beach sand is nice, the water was quite intimidating to the kids. It looks dark orange for about 30 feet, then pitch black. We met people that swim across the lake each day and were very nice. The lake is spring fed which means its colder even on a hot day and it gets deep very quickly so watch the children closely."
