White Birch Campground and Canoe Rental

"I have been enjoying this beautiful campground since 2016. The staff is fantastic, the other campers have always been really nice. Everyone I have brought up with me has loved it. Even if the weather is bad, Houghton Lake is a short drive away. Otherwise you can enjoy fishing, tubing, kayaking and canoeing on the river. This is a great rustic campground that you can tent camp, bring your pop-up or RV. You can purchase wood and ice from the employees. There's hot showers (bring quarters!) and clean bathrooms that are handicapped accessible. This place gives you a true northern experience where you can leave the city behind and just relax. I just love it!"

"We stayed here to enjoy a floating trip down the river. I must say that if you want a relaxing trip where you just float the 3 to 4 hour trip this might not be your river. Some other campers told us it was a rough trip and now they do the 1 to 2 hour trip, but we took our chances. Even though the owners were great in all ways, the floating trip we wanted (relaxing, not much work) wasn't what we got. We couldn't tie up to each other because we were to slow and with the tree/branches it was too hard to get around tied up. I never felt like I could relax because there was always something that I was trying to avoid in the river especially where the current picked up. I couldn't image taking a canoe or kayak down that part of the river, I feel you would have to get out several times to get pass, if in a boat. Great place to camp, prices are great, owners and workers are helpful and friendly, just be careful if you are looking for a floating trip where you want to relax. It was more work then we wanted it to be. Of course we still had fun and that's the important part, we just thought people like us should be aware of the river trip."

"My family has used White Birch for our family reunion/camping weekend for MANY years and we never leave unhappy. So thankful for such dedicated owners and staff that are super accommodating and friendly to all. They work with our large group every year to not only ensure our stay is great but that our trip down the river goes smooth as well. We always have a blast on the river with a combination of kayaks, canoes, and tubers. This river offers up the occasional obstacles but that is one of the things I enjoy most and there is nothing that is impassable. We look forward to our weekend at White Birch every year!"

"We have gone camping at white birch several times over the last 4 years and it’s been a great experience everytime. There are times on the river that you have to get out of your tube or kayak to maneuver around fallen trees, but people are being dramatic in their reviews about how bad it is. My 6 and 8 year old did it just fine. Owners are very kind and accommodating. Nice quiet place. Bathrooms are clean. I recommend booking the peninsula for tent camping. It’s really quiet and beautiful over there."

"We have a group of friends that come here every year. The owners are very helpful, friendly, and relaxed. They go above and beyond to make sure that each campsite has a great experience. The campsites are huge, overall flat, and offer shade and a pavilion with electrical outlets and new picnic tables(shown in pics). As far as the campground goes, we had no major issues. The bathroom generally runs out of paper towel into the evening, but I think that's because people are in there like it is a showering station using the paper towel as wash cloths... Which was frustrating because they could just use some quarters to take an actual shower instead of using an entire roll of paper towels!! Also, we tend to bring our own toilet paper because sometimes they don't fill it in time and it runs out, so it is helpful to have some on hand. Therefore, I recommend bringing both paper towels and toilet paper for your group (and quarters for showers... I believe $.25 gets you 3 minutes of water usage). The bathroom situation was my only complaint in the campground and that's not really the fault of the owners, moreso rude campers. We did a tubing trip, which was okay. The river was low and the trip ended up being more of an obstacle course as we tried to climb over many broken trees in the river. We had a similar experience last year, so I'm not sure if our group will end up tubing down the river again. The workers were helpful and brought our tubes back to our site for us, which was awesome so we didn't have to carry them all the way back. Last year I stayed in the cabin and that was a good experience as well. It was clean and had the essentials. There was an out house behind it but we walked to the regular bathroom since it wasn't too far. Overall, I would say it is the owners that really make this a great place to camp. They're basically available all the time and are always very accommodating. Our group ended up wanting to switch our tubing time and they were great about it. I do recommend bringing your own tube just in case they have a lot of tubers that day, to ensure you have one. I look forward to coming back. :) PS... Don't forget mosquito spray because you will be eaten alive if you do!"
