Marshville Dam Park Marshville Dam Road, Shelby, MI 49455
About the Business
Marshville Dam Park, located on Marshville Dam Road in Shelby, Michigan, is a 10-acre rustic park situated along Stony Creek. Despite being currently undeveloped, the park is a popular destination for picnics, fishing, and wildlife viewing. The park gets its name from George Marsh, who built a sawmill and grist mill at the location in the 1800s. The dam at the park is of historical significance, as it provided power for the mills and a means of transporting logs. Although the original dam gave way in the early 1900s, it was rebuilt in 1927 by volunteers, creating a large pond and a spawning area for brown and brook trout. The park gained fame for its excellent fishing opportunities, attracting anglers from across the state. Unfortunately, in 1970, vandals damaged the dam, causing the pond to empty and leading to the abandonment of the one-lane bridge in 1976. Despite these setbacks, Marshville Dam Park remains a picturesque spot for outdoor activities and a reminder of the area's rich history.
