"We ordered the smothered turkey wings with 3 Mac and cheese, rice and peas (red beans). A mini corn bread was also included. There is flavor in every bite. It may be considered pricey for some but this is quality home cooking. The servings are enough for two separate meals. The turkey wings is well seasoned and the meat literally falls off the bone. We ordered take out so the gravy was served on the side. The gravy is seasoned just right and has a little kick to its flavor. Once smothered over the turkey, the seasonings are compatible and its a delicious bite in every mouthful. The mac and cheese was a traditional baked mac and cheese. The mini corn bread was moist and had a tinge of sweetness. The winner and could be considered a meal in itself, the rice w/ peas (red beans). Its flavor packed with what taste like jerk seasoning. The rice was cooked perfectly and the beans were not overcooked. We tried the smothered turkey wings over our own plain white rice and as mentioned, the servings are enough for two."
"Visiting from out of town and a local recommended. Food was amazing- definitely homemade. The next time I visit I’m definitely coming back. Mac and cheese was 10/10. Cabbage 10/10"
"HIGHLY RECOMMEND this Jamaican restaurant. For their prices you are getting an incredibly bountiful amount of food in every meal. I have eaten here a couple of years ago and the environment has dramatically changed, it looks great. The quality of their dishes has not changed, still are delicious and absolutely flavorful. You have to experience it for yourself to understand why this place is a recommendation by all who have been here."
"Plate CLEANED!! This was my first time at Jakes, I have been wanting to try them out for some time. I took my two sisters and we all loved our food. I was shocked by some of the negative reviews I was reading because my experience was so great!! If you had a bad experience please give them another try because they listened!!! Every piece of food I ate was delicious! I didn’t have to touch the salt and pepper shakers on my table! We all tried different things and I was able to taste the cornbread, fish, jerk wings, pork chop, sweet potatoes, Mac n cheese. Everything was delicious! The staff was also very welcoming and polite!! I will be coming back for sure!!!"
"Not very friendly staff, not the best first impression! I went in a little while after opening (1130) on a Thursday. I got the jerk chicken, cabbage, sweet potato pie, cornbread, and a side of catfish. The chicken was old and dry, very disappointing because I drove to this restaurant for Caribbean food. Like others who commented about the cornbread, it was very dry. Maybe others like it dry and falling apart, but not me. Sweet potato pie was ok, oddly sticky. I would give it another try. The cabbage was good, not well seasoned, but I would get it again. But my best part was my add-on of catfish, which is sad because I went to the restaurant for the jerk chicken; it was excellent."
