Reviews of Maplehurst Natural Area
"Beautifully place. Love the trails and lake etc. although I do live near it and I’ve driving up there after dark sometimes after 10 when google says it’s closed and have seen cars up there. I’ve also seen the same trucks all the way down at the lake along with small motorized fishing boats out and grown adults fishing despite the age restriction. Safe to say even small security measures would be a much needed addition. Or even just sending a conservancy officer at least every now and again."
"Lovely place. I did not have time to explore much of the trails. Just driving in felt special. Hope to get back."
"Beautiful Hiking Trails -- We heard about Maplehurst Natural Area from a friend and visited for the first time today. We enjoyed the well marked and maintained loops and completed about 4 miles today. We used hiking shoes which worked well with small roots for stability. Spring fed Lake Maplehurst is beautiful and there are nice views of Torch Lake and East Grand Traverse Bay near the parking lot and a peak or two on the hiking loops. We will be back!"
"We hiked from posts 1-10 without any detours, and it was a moderate 3 mile hike. Pretty views. The section between posts 7 and 8 was nearly impassable mud, but the rest was fine. Wear waterproof boots with good traction! Hopefully they can improve the drainage of that section of trail."
"Maplehurst Natural Area has 5.5 miles of well marked trails with purple blazes and on trail guide posts with maps too. The hiking trails pass through a mix of open meadows, hardwood forests with scenic views of nearby lakes. The trailhead parking lot has beautiful views and easy access to spring fed Lake Maplehurst. No facilities. Free."
