Rogers Family Homestead Nature Preserve is a beautiful park and tourist attraction located on Erie Street in East Jordan, Michigan, United States. The preserve is part of the Rogers Family / Dressel / Jordan River Preserve Complex, spanning a total of 208 acres. The Rogers Family portion covers 156 acres, while the Jordan River section is 40 acres, the Dressel area is 10 acres, and the Jordan River Sedge Marsh is 2 acres.
Visitors to the preserve can explore a wide range of habitats, including mixed hardwood/conifer swamps and upland savannahs along the Jordan River. The preserve is home to a diverse array of plant and animal species, making it a popular destination for nature lovers.
The Rogers Family Homestead Nature Preserve features two parking areas and a 1.5-mile trail system for visitors to enjoy. Just upstream from the preserve, there is a public access/canoe launch that provides access to the Jordan River, which flows into Lake Charlevoix on the outskirts of East Jordan.
The history of the preserve dates back to 1869 when Samuel G. Rogers and his wife Eleanor homesteaded the land. Today, the preserve is still owned by the Rogers family, with additional land donated by Pat Bonadeo in 2021.
To visit the Rogers Family Homestead Nature Preserve, head to 501 Echo Street or 7944 Rogers Road in East Jordan, MI. From downtown East Jordan, travel northeast and then east on M-32 for 1.3 miles to Rogers Road, then turn right and the preserve is just ½ mile down on the right.
