About the Door County Land Trust - Detroit Harbor Nature Preserve
The Detroit Harbor Nature Preserve, located at 600 Lobdell Point Road in Washington, Wisconsin, is a stunning park that showcases the beauty of land and water. Situated on Washington and Detroit Islands, this preserve is home to a variety of plants and animals, including rare bird species and smallmouth bass.
Visitors can explore the marked trail on Washington Island, which takes them through an old-growth forest filled with yellow birch, hemlock, and sugar maple trees. The preserve also features a diverse understory with unique plant species like ostrich and sensitive ferns.
To help protect the ecological resources of Door County, visitors are encouraged to stay on the trails, clean their boots to prevent the spread of invasive plants, and keep pets on a leash. Collecting of any vegetation or wildlife is not allowed, and camping, fires, and motorized recreational activities are prohibited on the preserves.
The Door County Land Trust, a local non-profit organization, has protected over 9,400 acres of land in the area. Visitors can enjoy the nature preserves for activities like hiking, wildlife observation, and hunting (where permitted) at no charge.
To access the Detroit Harbor Nature Preserve, take Lobdell Point Road north from the ferry dock to the intersection of Green Bay Road. The Door County Land Trust office is located at 217 N Fourth Ave. in Sturgeon Bay, and the organization relies on support from members and businesses to continue their conservation efforts.

Reviews of Door County Land Trust - Detroit Harbor Nature Preserve
"Easy trail, nice scenery and Birding."
"Never been there but I just had a family reunion there about 3 weeks ago it was cold water was choppy going over and back but all around it was beautiful."
"You just can't beat a walk in the woods in early summer on Washington Island, and this area is one of the best on the island. Except for ocassionally when something's going on in the downtown area, or some days out at Schoolhouse Beach, you're not going to run into very many people, and even less of a chance taking a walk about in this natural area. Head over to the shore to gaze out over the water for a bit, then wander over to Red Cup for some of their killer coffee."
"One of the prettiest places in Northeast Wisconsin"
"Awesome!!!"
