"The selection of perennial plants are awesome and the lady that helped me was very knowledgeable about the plants too!"
"My first time ever going to this nursery and I’ve never had this bad of an experience at ANY store. First, I drove by and seen a lot of hydrangeas so I called to find out if they have 2 specific ones I’d been looking for. The girl I spoke to in the garden center, stated they did in deed have both. I asked about prices and she stated “all of them are 50% off and those are around 20-23$ with the 50% off”. When my husband and I arrived, none of them were 50% off and both women that I spoke to looked at me like they didn’t know what I was talking about. There wasn’t 1 hydrangea that was a % off making them 20-23$. They were 30% off. I was hesitant to purchase anything just from being lied to about pricing over the phone, but I found a big oakleaf hydrangea that I wanted so I purchased it. 108$ was the price including the 30% off. Again I had to convince myself it was worth it. BIG MISTAKE! All of these big oakleaf hydrangeas looked exactly the same and I thought they were just starting to “die off” because we’re going into fall. So I did some research and spoke to a few hydrangea experts and this oakleaf I bought has a bacterial fungus infection that will spread to other plants. When I called today and spoke to the manager and told her that all those hydrangeas are infected and will infect ALL the other hydrangeas that are surrounding them if they don’t remove the infected ones and treat the area, her reply was, “you have 7 days to return a plant”. She clearly wasn’t happy I was calling concerned about this and the potential of them selling diseased plants to other customers. I made a huge mistake buying from them. Not only are their prices higher than I’ve seen ANYWHERE, their customer service is HORRIBLE!!!! DO NOT BUY ANY HYDRANGEA FROM SMALLS GARDEN CENTER!!!!!!!"
"We have purchased a few times from Smalls. Some of the staff has acted like we were bothering them by asking questions or needing help. Every single time one employee has gone above and beyond to help us. Her name is Sarah. She’s always very helpful, polite & a very hard worker. We actually waited last time for her to finish with another customer so we could work with her. We knew she would take care & help us with what we needed. Everyone should take a lesson from her on customer service & work ethic. Very happy customers because of Sarah!"
"We purchased 35 arborvitae’s last year. In November 2021 we were told that the 2 that had died “were on the board” to be replaced. Never happened. Now we have a total of 6 that have died, and have not gotten anything but run around from Melanie. Still being told that a ticket to replace is “on the board”. Next step is offering to bring them the dead ones and have them replace, and plant ourselves. Really frustrating, as we were originally so impressed by them! ***Update*** Returned to Smalls today to pick up 6 new arborvitae’s. (Remember, we were given a year warranty on replacement of any trees they planted which died.). So contacted them on Thursday and offered to bring dead ones back and pick up new trees, as are having additional landscaping done next week, as was told by Tina no need to bring dead ones back and that a “ticket” would be on the board. No ticket, and nothing but attitude from staff. Finally they sorted out and we are on our way home to replant trees we have been waiting for them to replant since last November. Have been in the customer service industry for over 30 years and this experience has been the absolute worst I’ve ever experienced. All we wanted was for them to honor their guarantee."
