About the Business
The Indiana Dunes National Park Chellberg Farm is a historic site located at 709-747 North Mineral Springs Road in Porter, Indiana. This farm tells the story of a hardworking Swedish immigrant family who lived and worked here for three generations. The farmhouse represents a typical 1890 through 1910 Swedish and Northwestern Indiana farmstead, with the brick farmhouse built in 1885. The National Park Service restored the farmhouse to its turn of the 20th century appearance, except for the dining room modified by the Chellbergs in the 1920s.
The Chellberg family, consisting of Anders and Johanna Chellberg and their children, established the farm in 1869 and expanded it to 80 acres by 1874. The farm was passed down through generations until it was sold to the National Park Service in 1972. Visitors can explore the farmhouse, which includes rooms like the kitchen, pantry, and parlor, showcasing how the family lived and worked without modern conveniences.
The Chellberg Farmhouse is open to the public during festivals, demonstrations, and ranger-guided tours. The site is wheelchair accessible, and visitors can experience a glimpse into the past by touring the historic farmhouse and learning about the Chellberg family's legacy.

Reviews
"I loved it here! Nice easy walks, with interesting old houses and a farm with super friendly goats and cows. Plenty of parking and even a gift shop."
"Relaxing hikes, different trails with varying distances. I think you need a parking pass now thats its part of national park. We got ours online and its good for one year at all the Dunes parks."
"This was a chill place to stop while walking the Chellberg loop. There are actually animals being taken care of here. We talked to a ranger at the farm that was just hangin' with the goats and she was very friendly and seemed to love the animals."
"My family and I came here with some friends during our road trip and we were amazed at all the old buildings, farm, cemetery and distinct trails running all over the massive property. Definitely a great place for some family hiking or just to see the sites of an 1800's Era farm."
"Amazing National Park in a very unusual setting. Had an Amazing day doing some of the more popular hikes! Bring water if you plan to do the extended hike at the farm!"
