Reviews of ATLAS
"Bronze statue created in 1937 around Rockefeller Plaza in Midtown Manhattan, NYC. It is across the street from St. Patrick's Cathedral. The sculpture depicts the ancient Greek Titan Atlas holding the heavens on his shoulders. The spot is nice, not too much or attraction from tourist because they are probably excited about more standout spot around the area."
"Gorgeous, iconic, landmark of strength & perseverance. He personifies strength and endurance — built during the trying times of the Great Depression. The massive 15 feet-tall Art Deco figure of “Atlas” made out of bronze matches the architectural style of the Rockefeller Center."
"630 Fifth Avenue, NY, Manhattan NY Main entrance forecourt What3Words ///poems.limit.stove https://w3w.co/poems.limit.stove 40.758961, -73.977190 40°45'32.2596"N, 73°58'37.8840"W 40°45.53766'N, 73°58.6314'W Atlas is a successful collaboration between two talented artists, Lee Lawrie, who conceived the idea and designed the figure, and Rene Chambellan, who modeled the heroic-sized statue from his sketch. A famous figure from Greek mythology, Atlas was a half-man, half-god giant known as a Titan, who helped lead a war against the Olympic gods. After the Titans’ defeat, Atlas was condemned to carry the world on his shoulders as punishment. Atlas is one of Rockefeller Center’s greatest and largest Art Deco icons and has even been used on U.S. postage stamps. The figure of Atlas in the sculpture is 15 feet (4.6 m) tall, while the entire statue is 45 feet (14 m) tall. Atlas weighs 14,000 pounds (6,400 kg) and is the largest sculpture at Rockefeller Center."
"If there’s one thing that’ll give you a dose of “I’m in New York City” vibes, it’s the Atlas Statue on 5th Avenue! This guy’s biceps could probably bench-press a small car, and he’s holding up the weight of the world like it’s no big deal. I’m not saying you’ll get superhuman strength from looking at it, but you might just feel a bit more empowered. It’s like the city saying, “You got this!” as you stroll by. So, whether you’re a local or a tourist, swing by, snap a pic, and soak in some of that NYC resilience. Atlas has your back… quite literally! Pro Tip: Flex your own muscles and see if you can strike a pose as epic as his!"
