"Rented June 2011, I am just now able to speak about this terrible waste of family resources and time. I want others to avoid this mistake, or at least be able to make an informed decision about your rental. First, you should know that this cottage is lake view, not Lake Front. It is a fixed up turn of the century garage that sits behind the owner’s huge house so if you do plan to do things like sit lakefront drinking your coffee or play with your children in the water or on the beach, be aware that you are in front of the owners house and extremely far from your shack. True, buyer beware, the rental listing says nothing about lakefront, only creatively implying it with the pictures is has on its listing, they do say “charming cottage on the lake front property of Higgins Lake”, cleverly never showing the house in front, but come on, that’s so shady! I should have asked how far is it from my rental to the water and is there anything between (like your giant house or piles of junk…to add insult to injury the owner has piles of junk partially covered with blue tarps flanking one of your many obstructed views). The “cottage” is not suited for anyone over 5’3” tall. It says there are two bedrooms, and sleeps six, noting $100 per head above 6 which implies spaciousness. Not the case, if this dilapidated Cracker Jack box is more than 200 square feet of legal living space, I’d be shocked! Additionally, I hope you don’t mind that the bedrooms don’t have actual doors. This is because they are in a part of the shack that is too short for actual doors to be hung; drapes are hanging in the doorways from snow marker poles, so they kind of bend and bounce when you open and close your “doors”. Doorways, does imply two bedrooms, not so fast! There is only one room that could be classified as a bed room that does have a double bed. The other “bed room” has a twin bed and is the walkway from the only bathroom (more on this special space later) the “living room” and the bedroom. Ah the bathroom. This is in one of the two wings of the shack where people above 5’3” cannot stand up straight. The shower is terrifying to anyone that likes to not shower in pitch blackness with no light. The hand crafted ceiling planks are partially falling down above you, which is a nice treat. We left two days early, we couldn't take it anymore."
