"I paid to have my 2022 taxes prepared and filed with Proactive Accounting Solutions. Upon waiting for a refund I discovered their Houghton business location had been abruptly closed. None of the employees had updated me of their closure until I reached out to Ron Silberstein who individually worked on them. Ron let me know that Emily Virtanen had let him and the other employees at the Houghton location go and that they no longer worked there. Ron lead me to contact, Emily Virtanen, the owner of the business and the only person left to discuss anything with. I explained to her that I have not received a tax refund and she attempted to charge me more than I already paid in order for her to dig further into the situation. After she asked me to sign a power of attorney for authorization I explained to her that I already signed a POA because I was instructed to do so by her former employees when dropping my taxes off for filing having explained that I had not received a tax refund for consecutive years and needed to know why. It's February 2024 now and I haven't received a 2022 tax refund but furthermore the reason as to why, which was the sole purpose of filing taxes through a 'professional' tax accounting business. Terrible experience. I recommend anyone looking to file taxes to seek elsewhere."

"Even though the tax filing process was slower than other tax prep services, however, I am gonna give a 5 star because of Emily Virtanen- she is very nice, kind, and helpful. I understand that it's hard to reach her; but once you reach her, you will understand why I have used those 'adjective' for her! One suggestion on my behalf is- please response to the email of the customers as soon as the tax preparer sees it- this will give them some comfort; usually someone emails to the tax preparer because it is emergency situation for him/her- getting 'no/very late' reply makes the situation worse! :( I wish good luck for "Proactive Accounting Solutions" :)"

"Can't get my phone calls returned, had to hire someone else to correct mistakes that effect several people (children/heirs). On the plus side, she did amend one of the other returns that were incorrect last year? Having that amendment double checked too, the mistakes that have been made shouldn't have been. I wish I could get the fees back to help the kids pay the penalties and interest that they'll probably owe."

"Your total lack of integrity, honesty and capabilities is beyond belief. My review has nothing to do with rewriting the Internal Revenue Code. It has everything to do with your misrepresentation of your capabilities in order to acquire new business at the expense of the customer and for your personal financial gain. My amended returns are proof of your ineptness in accomplishing a business return. We will let the IRS determine your qualifications!"

"I used Proactive Accounting services for the first time for my personal and 2017 business returns. I am NOT AT ALL SATISFIED with the quality of work done by Emily Virtanen. I paid thousands for my business return to be prepared and it was filed a month AFTER the extension due date, after she assured me she there would be no problem completing it even though it was brought to her in Spetember and was due a month later. Also, it has been almost one year later and I still have NOT received the accountant's changes to load to my QuickBooks desktop to bring my registers current. I am filing a "Preparor's Complaint" against this business/person with the IRS and the State of Michigan and have hired an attorney to get my records and updates returned from her. Do yourself a favor and use someone else for your tax prep. I wouldn't even give her ONE star, but you can't post a review unless you rate it at least one star. If there was a negative star I would have chosen that!"
