Sturgis Bank

"Extremely disappointing indirect experience. Apparently the Colon branch occasionally refuses to execute requested wire transfers, plus doesn't bother to inform their account holders unless they ask. Here's what happened: A young adult account-holder lawfully owed me a significant sum of money and went in to wire me the funds. The bank asked him some seemingly fair questions about the amount etc. It appeared all was well and the bank would execute the requested wire for their account-holder. Then, the bank took the surprising - and possibly illegal - step of contacting the adult account-holder's father (who is not on the account) asking him about the transaction. He was initially unfamiliar with the transaction, but then apparently verified its legitimacy with a fourth party. The funds were eventually withdrawn from the account holder's account. However, I did not receive the funds the same or next business day and followed up with the ccount holder, who like a reasonable adult assumed the wire had processed since the funds were taken from his account. However, only when he called the bank was he informed the bank was unilaterally refusing to wire the funds and would 'eventually' return them to his account rather than wiring to me like he had instructed. Through no fault of his own and solely due to Sturgis Bank and Trust, the debtor had to deal with the frustration of paying me in little bits via Venmo and I had to wait longer than I otherwise would have for the debt to be settled."
