Reviews of Golfside Lake Apartments
"It has truly been an insane experience living here. The place itself is nice enough, there's a lake and trees. Thats about all it has going for it. Let me count the ways: 1. I'll start with the most recent issue. 2 weeks ago they randomly decided to change all the locks. They did this at around 8 pm. Residents were notified an hour later at 9 pm. Each unit was left one key. ONE. For two bedroom apartments. As though they don't know how many lease holders they have in each property. Now, all the doors are taped open because nobody has keys. My mail was stolen as a result of this. It is almost three weeks later and the doors are still all taped open, because they STILL have not provided keys to the residents at the time of this review. You email, they do not respond. 2. On that note, its extremely difficult to get in touch with staff here. Emails go unanswered. I literally had to call McKinley corporate offices before the community manager reached out to me about the broken treadmills in the gym. They fixed one of two broken treadmills (of which there are three), so I'll give them credit for that. Turnaround is high, as we have a new community manager on average once a year. Sometimes less than that. McKinley is extraordinarily cheap and does not fix issues, so the employees stay a very short amount of time as they are left to deal with the fallout alone. Its always someone new in the office. 3. Expect constant inspections. We've had maintenance come by three times - yes, three - to change the same exact lightbulb in the patio closet (which never gets used). They will broadly announce an inspection but never give you a time frame. At one point there were three inspections in under 2 months. Good luck if you don't want strangers in your home unannounced while you're at work. 4. Recently they've decided to pretend they have a security office in the front. Cars are made to stop and show their resident sticker. Okay, I can understand this. That's great! Except that it's only every once in a while. The majority of the day (and sometimes multiple days a week) its wide open with no one in that office. So certain days it will just take you longer to get into the community. Because it is so inconsistent, it doesn't increase security. Really it just means that every few days it will take you longer to get to your house. The procedure for showing your sticker is always different and confusing. Across the street, the security booth at their Aspen Chase property backs up traffic onto Golfside Rd. 5. Maintenance is very difficult to get ahold of. Expect to submit multiple work tickets to get an issue addressed. 6. They pad your rent billing each month with mysterious services and amenities. They charge a premium for water. The amenities include the gym, in which there is broken equipment (see item 2) and only recently did they start stocking facility wipes to clean the equipment. At one point I was using toilet paper and soap from their bathroom to wipe equipment down. When I called to complain about that, I was told "well, they don't really go in there". 7. When we moved in, we were given a move in date of Aug 1 and then they changed that to Aug 3 just 24 hours before our move in date. We had to keep our belongings in a garage waiting to move in the extra two days and had to find arrangements to stay elsewhere for that time. They offered nothing for that mistake. 8. The maintenance staff will clean out apartments and throw old smoke detectors in the dumpster, where they will beep loudly for days. I've had to crawl into the dumpster twice to find and destroy beeping smoke detectors. There's more, but I think I've typed enough. The shame is, this could easily be a nice place to live. It really boils down to the fact that McKinley is a faceless corporate slumlord who mismanages these properties and puts as little resources as they can into their assets in order to maximize profits."
"If I could give a 0, I would. DO NOT MOVE HERE!! The moment we moved in there was a gaping hole under the sink that let in hundreds of ants, that I myself had to patch up using expanding foam. all that even though I contacted maintenance several times. I also had a mouse problem TWICE!! All the office did was get us mouse traps but no one ever stepped foot into our townhome to fix the issue. I'm now having rent problems where they are charging me electricity for 2 out of the 8 months we've been here, claiming our address has 2 meters running which we had no knowledge of! They won't give me any direct answers as to where these charges came from seeing as on our lease we are not responsible for electricity. I was informed via email that I should pay for our base rent and regular utilizes and they'd take care of those random extra electricity charges later once they figure out where they came from. But I'm still being charged late fees after paying them close to $1700. McKinley is HORRIBLE! I will never want to live in one of their communities again if this is how they treat their tenants."
"I don't live here, but if you are looking to schedule a tour, I recommend Ashley. She is knowledgeable about the complex and other properties in the area. Her positivity was refreshing after a morning of back-to-back showings. She takes the time to know you as a person, as well as a renter. Thank you for such a welcoming tour."
"Golfside Lake Apartments is a beautiful community with great amenities, including two swimming pools, two tennis courts, a playground, and a nicely equipped fitness center that is available 24 hours a day. It has good walking paths, and a beautiful lake teeming with ducks and wildlife. The grounds are always well-kept. My apartment was updated prior to my moving in with newer appliances in the kitchen and updated fixtures in the bathroom as well as new carpet and fresh paint. The apartment is well maintained, quiet, and comfortable. The maintenance staff here is top-notch! I had a few minor issues requiring repair or attention since moving here two months ago, and they have consistently been quick to address them. The leasing office staff are all quite friendly and welcoming, and they enjoy when residents stop by for a visit. The location is great, and close to many shopping centers and restaurants. Bus service is available right out front, and there is ample parking for residents and guests alike. McKinley has a convenient online portal for paying rent, submitting maintenance requests, and keeping current with community announcements. I’m looking forward to keeping Golfside Lake Apartments as my home for many years to come! UPDATE 10/2023: I’ve now been in this community for over a year. Both Pierrelynn and the new community manager Jesse have been wonderful to deal with! They make the extra effort to ensure that maintenance concerns are resolved properly and have significantly improved communication between residents and the administrative staff. They have reopened the security gatehouse and implemented after-hours roving security patrols to aid with safety and security in the community. I am happy to call Golfside Lake Apartments my home!"
