About Us

Caring House

Caring House is a supportive institution located at 1305 Prospect Avenue in Iron Mountain, Michigan, United States. We provide a safe haven for domestic violence and sexual assault survivors in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and northern Wisconsin. Our goal is to help survivors understand how trauma has impacted their lives, explore available resources, and evaluate their options.

Our facility includes a community playroom designed specifically for children, with beanbag chairs, stuffed animals, books, toys, and a fenced-in play set outside. We want every survivor, especially the little ones, to feel welcomed and comfortable here. The playroom offers a fun and happy space for caregivers to connect with their children.

In addition, our beautifully remodeled community living room provides a homey and comfortable setting for survivors to relax and unwind. Our advocates are always nearby to offer assistance. This area features a TV, electric fireplace, washer and dryer, and cozy furniture for survivors to snuggle up on.

At Caring House, we offer all-inclusive services and welcome any victim or survivor of domestic violence or sexual assault. We are here to provide a safe shelter, someone to talk to, and support no matter what you believe you deserve. Feel free to come and have a cup of coffee with one of our advocates.

Testimonials from our clients speak to the impact of our services, with many expressing gratitude for the support, guidance, and love they have received at Caring House. We strive to empower survivors and help them realize their strength and worth. Our mission is to provide invaluable services to those in need, and we are committed to remaining a beacon of hope and support for our community.

"I emailed them over a month ago,to utilize their counseling services, absolutely no response. I called o er a week ago and spoke to the receptionist who said she would forward my request to a counselor. Still no response. I have stayed in a domestic violence shelter before escaping from a violent deadly situation. I was never treated like this. very sad that people can't get help in this area."

"Awful response time and responses. Sent an electronic message over a week ago and got responded to by asking again what was going on and if I could get some help, only to be met with the fact that I needed to call. I’m not Able to get away from my abuser like that to make a call, which is what I thought the reasoning behind, leaving a message, online, and being able to quickly click out of the box, was all about. Apparently not. I hope something doesn’t happen to me before I find diff help."

"I have been able to donate a lot of stuff to people who need it. You just drop it off inside the building off to the right hand side. I’ve dropped off kids clothes and adult clothes and it get donated to families in need."

"After calling for over four weeks being promised a phone call back, the executive director got on the line. She was not the person I was asking for so this was frustrating. She seemed to think that telling me she’s the exec director made some kind of difference. I was looking for a domestic violence advocate and someone who can talk about a safety plan with me. Not a single person I spoke with seemed to take me seriously. The exec director said everything to me to let me know that I was taking up her time and bothering her. She would cut me off and say, “someone is standing at the door…so…”, and “…someone’s calling on the other line…” and even put me on hold in the middle of my sentence! She kept finding ways to disconnect from helping me. I felt disrespected and not taken seriously. I don’t understand why it took over four weeks to speak with someone and i had to keep calling and in the end I didn’t speak with who i was looking for and the lady i did speak with treated me poorly. They need a new executive director and the ability to be helpful. This place is terrible."
