"It's a wonderful place to work they treat you like family I've been there since 2017"
"Driveaway division only pays $ .83 per mile on most RV deliveries. You are required to pay for the fuel out of the funds front-loaded to you for the trip, which is part of your entire profit. You get paid the rest after delivery. They don't pay enough per mile by far, and they're keeping a LOT more than they give you. Most of these places are keeping PROFIT in the amount of 3x what they give you. I use Google Sheets to calculate my total gross pay, minus fuel to deliver RV, minus car rental to get back, fuel for that, food and 2 different Uber trips. Most trips I calculate, I am either at break-even or just above. A trip I was looking at taking, unit pickup in Goshen, IN and delivering to Murray, UT. They were going to pay roughly $1,245 total (.83 cents per mile x 1501 miles). This is a gas unit, and let's say fuel's going to cost $3.30/gal. These units average 8 mpg, depending on how hilly the road is. My cost of fuel would be roughly $619. Subtract that from $1,245, and you're down to $626. Synergy charges YOU a $35 shuttle fee to move the unit to the yard you're picking up from. They could absorb that cost instead of making us pay it. Are they paying the driver moving that unit a few miles $35/hr? No, so then why must we? I don't tow a car behind. Flights this time of year are expensive, and usually renting a car beats cost of flight, train and bus depending on where you get one. Murray, UT is expensive for a cheap rental and the one I could get at the time would be around $318 to rent from this location. Usually I find them from $34 to $130 per day, but Utah is "special". Then you have fuel for the rental. I calculated 30 mpg for the car on highway, at a rough total cost of fuel of $150 to get back to Elkhart, IN (nearest rental drop-off). The two Ubers mentioned, earlier, estimate roughly around $57 total. The total round trip would take me 5 days total, mainly due to DOT limitation of 11 hrs per day driving on the way there with the unit and the need for sleep. I estimated $70 for food. Total cost of delivering the Unit AND my cost to come back = $1,249. They would pay me (upfront and post-delivery amount total) = $1,245. Now, if you are out for 5 days then you need to divide your profit by the amount of days out to get your "per day profit". For this trip, I would have made roughly $-3.50 total on the trip after expenses. The problem with companies like this one, and most driveaway companies, they don't care how you get back. They don't care what your cost to come back or get home is. I originally had 2 cheap hotels lined up for that trip calculation, but deleted them. They say we can't sleep in the units, but then hint to sleep in the units "wink wink" to cut our cost. Can't exactly do that either when it is freezing outside without leaving the unit running for 6-8 hours while you sleep. More $$$ burning in the tank, and we aren't supposed to do that. These aren't our units. I make more money driving Uber per day, at an extremely small fraction of the fuel cost, AND I'm home every day. These companies are making thousands off our back per unit delivered, and we are barely scraping by. We are responsible for the unit while in our possession, and this job can be potentially dangerous. We take all the risk while driving, they don't. They only care about you getting that unit delivered so THEY can profit. If you don't care about money....go ahead. If you MUST make a profit because of financial obligations / family, this isn't for you. YOU WILL NOT MAKE THE KIND OF MONEY THEY ADVERTISE doing driveaway. Their turnover rate is high for a reason. Other companies that have the same requirements (paying for your own fuel to deliver) pay $1.02 - 1.11 minimum to deliver box trucks that cost way less than these RV's. They still suck to drive for, but at least they pay more. Even with those, I still maybe only came out with $150 - 200 profit after paying for all the above AND a cheap hotel stay while losing 3 days on the round trip. Still not worth it. It is basically working for free, and they know it and don't care!"
