"Lovely nature preserve with easier trails. Good for kids, seniors and dogs, this trail system offers various loops and trails. 3 lakes to see while hiking. Beautiful fall colors and wildlife Not ADA"
"Wonderful, well marked set of trails with abundant wildlife. Very shaded for the most part and not terribly difficult terrain for hiking. There was a portable toilet on site. The parking lot is large but no shade to be had for keeping your vehicle cool."
"Went here unplanned when I was waiting for vehicle repairs to be completed. While I went on a cold rainy day, resulting in not the prettiest scenery, it was still a nice nature hike. The trails are well maintained and free of hazards and trash. Plenty of different trails varying in length. If I was ever stuck in the area again, I’d go back to kill some time."
"This is a great walking trail. It was easy to follow and amazing views! A must-hike! Really clean trail, not busy, and just gorgeous. Really easy for a person who doesn’t hike and seems easy for kids as well."
"‘Twas a hot one today but a good day for a shorter hike at the Portman Preserve in between Paw paw and Mattawan. This is a Southwest Michigan Land Conservancy property and is always a beautiful hike. Today saw mom, dad and baby swans on Lime Lake, a snake trying to pretend to be an ostrich, tons of dragon flies and chipmunks running amok. All in all a great day in the great outdoors. This preserve is free, most of the trails are packed dirt with some boardwalks, dog on leash friendly, kid friendly. There’s a good mix of forest and wetlands, two viewable lakes, and a large variety of plant, animal and bird life here. There is a large parking area. No facilities so plan accordingly. "
