"Fossil Ledges is a beautiful place to visit! We made it in my F150 and had no problem going through the mud/puddles/trail. The water is crystal clear and snorkeling is a must. At least these fish in the great lakes won't eat you like in the oceans. You could spend an entire day at Fossil Ledges. Get there early or might not be a spot for your vehicle."
"Amazing experience while your on the island. Easily walk out into Lake Huron quite a distance and take in the beautiful scenery."
"Fossil Ledges was a sweet trip! We took out a suburban (with tires flat) as well as a lot of side by sides. The trail out was of course for off road vehicles and you will go through puddles/ponds and over whoops, etc. when you arrive, there are a few spots to park and then drop down to the ledges. the water was great! Cool swimming spots, and water wasn’t too cold, thankfully!! There were a few bugs, but nothing out of ordinary for the UP. We did find a bunch of awesome stones and fossil filled rocks!!! Trail gets busy, so drive safe!"
"We made it in a 2020 all wheel drive equinox. The ride was slow and we would have stopped at the beaver swamps because it looked bad however a side by side stopped us and said it was only 14 inches deep. We made it. The entire drive was all like sheet rock. There is no soft bottoms or ruts. There is holes and busted up rocks, just no real ruts. It took us close to an hour to drive 6 miles. It was nice drive and would highly recommend it. The lady at the tourist info place told us she wouldn't recommend driving our equinox out to the ledges but we did. It's probably not passable just after rain."
"Very cool spot to explore and see fossils in the rocks. The last 2 miles are very challenging and slow going. Definitely need a vehicle with a higher clearance, but didn't need to use 4wd at all to get out there. Lots of puddles to drive through!"
