Reviews of Mackinac Island Carriage Tours
"The best way to tour Mackinac Island! We really enjoyed our rides and the driver on both rides were excellent tour guides - pointing out interesting places and offering commentary on the history of the area. We took the red carriage from the Main Street up to the Butterfly House and then the green double-hitch carriage down to the fort. Highly recommend!"
"Super highly recommend this attraction! It's a tad expensive considering it's something like 30$ a person for the regular tour and like 50$ for the inclusion of the butterflyhouse, but it was so nice and definitely something to remember! They stop at all the major places to see and give you 3 or so points where you can hop on or off and every driver we had had a different point of view and tidbits of historical information and were beyond amazing. Even the lady who was toting us back to town when the tour was over and didn't necessarily need to talk to us gave us super enthusiastic restaurant recommendations and was more than willing to answer our questions about the horses and locals. We made sure to tip our drivers because they DEFINITELY earned it. This feels like a bucketlist item, definitely do it at least once guys!"
"It was a perfect way to get a feel for the island. It was raining the day we went so it was perfect way to explore. Both drivers made tour enjoyable. They do pack the carriages. I felt bad for the horses."
"I should've reached more. This tour was a disappointment overall. * Long slow lime to get a ticket. *Long frequent stops and not much to see beyond the Grand Hotel. You literally slowly go up the hill. They show you stables then leave you at the top for the 2nd part of the tour. * It is designed to encourage spending at the stable museum area with shops etc before going on part 2 of the tour in a different carriage. * Part 2 of the tour is a cemetery and a slow horse poo ride through the forest. * You get a brief 14 min stop at the Arch lookout spot where you fight tourists to take a pic of a rock formation. * You are left to walk back to the town as they don't return you to the area where you started the ride. *The fresh poo smell as the horse drops a load is something you must experience as no words will illustrate this type of fume. Overall not worth it."
"My friend and I had an excellent experience on the Carriage Tour on Tuesday, August 8th (2033). Our first guide (small carriage) was smart, funny, and very informative. The second carriage (the three horse carriage) was also very informative. I also really appreciated the shade. The taxi carriage back to downtown was also good. I highly recommend this tour."
