Reviews of The Hudson Cafe
"My husband and I came for our anniversary weekend brunch. We had a reservation at 1:45pm and arrived between 1:55-2:00pm. My husband called to notify them we were late, but will be there soon. The woman on the phone confirmed we were good as we followed direction per their policy, which states they offer a 15 minute grace period and we were there before the grace period, but still called as a courtesy. I checked in at the counter and was told to give them just a minute. People were still coming in. Several had parties of 4+ or more. The last straw for me was that lots of couples were leaving, and I noticed tables became available, yet we were still not seated, then there were two girls that went to the counter after coming through the doors and were immediately seated before us, at this time we are approaching 2:30pm. I had to go to the counter to ask how much longer the wait will be and to ensure that we are checked in, the girl then said snarkily, "Yeah, you're checked in, you just have to give us a moment!" With a confused look on my face, I simply said, "Ok, " and walked away. Finally, after a few more minutes, she called our name and sat us. I was sooooo sick to my stomach about how they handled just getting a seat WITH A RESERVATION, I was no longer looking forward to the food anymore.... However, if it weren't for my husband reminding me that people suck and knowing how much he wanted to come here for our anniversary, I decided to stay and try the food. Any other time, I would've left immediately. Now let's talk food.... The food is YUMMY!! We've been talking about this restaurant for months and finally were able to try what the rave was all about!! We ordered the Throwback Crepes 10/10, Very Berry Stuffed French Toast 8/10, Salmon Croquettes 7.5/10, Shrimp and Grits 7/10, Cheesy House Potatoes, and Eggs 8/10 Everything was bursting with flavor and the portions are decent!! The Chipotle Hollandaise is everything and gave the perfect kick to any brunch dish!! I highly recommend the Throwback Crepes for mouthwatering savory goodness. The pancakes were fluffy and delicious!! Our server was very nice and attentive to making sure we were taken care of. IMO... Keep the chefs and wait staff, but get rid of the two girls that operate the front counter. You need people who are welcoming, have a smile on their faces, and positively represent your establishment. I can hardly say that I'd recommend people to visit here, and if I do, it'll be with a warning to ignore the attitude at the front counter... We all have bad days..."
"Was excited to return here but I was highly disappointed. Food looked great in presentation but it lacked lots of flavor and heat. My food was cold. Took about 45 minutes to come out. I ordered the salmon croquettes with cheesy grits and pancakes. Definitely not grandmas croquettes patties. The grits lacked salt. Never tasted the pancakes because my food was cold. My son ordered the brunch burger which he really enjoyed. My server was fantastic and very attentive. He apologized for my food and offered to remake but I declined. I do not send food back. I was willing to pay for what I ordered but he had the manager take it off. Probably won’t come back. Drove a long way for nothing. Well, I got to spend some QT with my son. There’s always a bright side."
"Food was amazing looks great tastes amazing. Huevos salsa was full of flavor tortillas chips were great and eggs were cooked perfectly over easy. Corn beef hash was great. Crispy texture and seasoned well."
"Average. The place was recommended to us so we tried it. Food wasn't bad but at the same time wasn't anything out of the ordinary either. Server seem to be having a rough day wasn't super happy to be taking care of us. Food did come out quick. They do have on of those policies where they won't seat you until your entire party is there. I get why they do that, but I never have found that very hospitable for a hospitality industry. The host on duty that day could definitely use some training on how to present that better to guests that doesn't sound quite so rude."
"We came here on a Sunday at 1:45 with a reservation. We had to wait about 10/15 minutes to get seated. We got our drink orders taken pretty quickly. I ordered the hot Caribbean, which was supposed to be a play on a hot toddy except with rum. I wasn’t the biggest fan, the alcohol was too strong and I couldn’t taste the honey in the drink. For my main I got eggs Benedict and cheesy grits. I enjoyed the eggs Benedict, but the grits had basically no flavor at all. The salmon croquettes were a bit salty for my taste, but they were still good. The people I came with both got French toast and they enjoyed their meals. For the price and the ambiance, I would come here again, but maybe I’d get a mimosa instead."
