"I found this doctor to be nothing but rude, arrogant, and dishonest. I attempted a vaginal birth after cesarean section, or VBAC and had the misfortune to get this doctor. Shortly after I was admitted in active labor, Dr. Capili looked at my chart, said, "You're attempting a VBAC? Oh, God." He rolled his eyes, sighed deeply, and began telling me that my baby and I could both die. Just what I wanted to hear at 6 centimeters dilated, with regular contractions. What a way to reassure a patient, let me tell you. Then, Dr. Capili told me, "If you don't get an epidural *right now*, you might not get one later." When I was pregnant, I talked to a nurse who assured me that they did VBAC deliveries at Henry Ford West Bloomfield because they had 24-hour OB anesthesia available. This doctor lied to my face. I would have asked for another doctor but it was late at night and he was the only attending physician there (or so they told me). I ended up having a repeat c-section. I got the sense that Dr. Capili felt my child and I were a huge inconvenience because he had to perform the surgery. He was very short and irritated with me when I asked any questions. While he and Dr. McBride were sewing me up, I heard Dr. Capili ask loudly, "So, what should we put on the operative report as to why this woman had a c-section?" Dr. McBride's equally loud reply was, "Failure to progress and repeat Cesarean, what else?" Did I really need to hear them discussing this, while I was getting stitched up and fully conscious? None of the doctors said anything like this during my first c-section. It was as if they were rubbing it in that I had not succeeded at a vbac. Dr. Capili, if you don't want to attend vbac deliveries, don't work at a facility that performs them. You shouldn't be attending *any* deliveries with your attitude. Shame on you for treating a woman in labor with such contenpt and lying to her. That is a very vulnerable time for any woman and you should understand that. If not, you shouldn't be in your line if work. Future patients, if you want to be disrespected and lied to while you're giving birth, this is the perfect doctor for you! If not, look elsewhere for someone who will at least make an effort to treat you with compassion and empathy and recognize that the birth of your baby is a special event in your life."
