"There's a big difference between German food and true German cuisine. You'll discover the difference if you dine at Metzgers. The place is a tie to the Ann Arbor of the past because it was an institution downtown for decades. The new location is out there in the wilds of Zeeb road, but it is definitely worth the trip because you are going to get an excellent menu exquisitely cooked and served in a fresh new building that hearkens back to the best places in Munich. The beer is the stuff you would only get in a biergarten served in a proper stein, and overall, this is a can't miss dining experience that you have to try to believe. Highly recommend... I took a buddy who's as German as the Black Forest there last night and he agrees."
"Place has been on my radar for years. So.... Thursday 12/28 It was go time! Arrived at 4:30 Laura was our server extraordinare. The gal has served here for 12 years, yet she looks 22. She knew the menu backwards & forwards and every point in between. Helped guide us first timers. Order the sampler platter for two for $42 Had all kinds of leftovers. Splurge for $2 And get the French onion soup and make sure you get extra horseradish because it's the old school. horseradish that makes your frontal lobe roll. The hostess was the floor show, squeezing in parties of 6-8 with no reservations Watching her was magical. It's no wonder they have been in business for over 95 years Legendary Also 1 minute off of the I-94 freeway."
"Seriously? This is NOT traditional German food. The pictures that I’m including are from here in Bavaria Germany and these are not Metzger’s pictures. The food at Metzger’s doesn’t even come close to real traditional German food. I wish I could open a traditional German restaurant in Ann Arbor and have everyone taste the real deal. In my opinion the food at Metzger’s is terrible and nowhere close to traditional. Go to McDonald’s for a better meal."
"A taste of the Fatherland. Delicious German food , set in an authentic atmosphere. Large portions of heart healthy lol, rich German food. If you enjoy, roasted meats and plenty of gravy with tangy sauerkraut, this is the place. Bring your wallet though as things can get expensive quickly but not too outrageous: Highly recommend!"
"What an amazing restaurant! The online menu alone was enough to make me want to eat there! The inside and outside of the restaurant are decorated with everything flags and banners depicting the different states or regions of Germany! Upon entering the restaurant, you are greeted with German music and a panorama of steins, flags, banners, paintings, and stained glass panels. Beautiful! However, the smells greeting you are pure heavenly aromas to entice your tummy to growl in anticipation! The staff are excellent, friendly, and helpful! The wait time from ordering to the food arriving is minimal, especially when they bring you some fresh brown bread and butter and glasses of water as soon as you sit down! I ordered the schnitzel, and it was cooked perfectly and so tender I could cut it with a fork! If you have ever wanted to try authentic German food, this is the place to go! If you are longing for the flavors and smells of the old country, you MUST go to Metzger's! They have been in business 95 years! They know how to make German food!"
