Reviews of Glenbard North High School
"Both my kids have IPADS. This is very distracting and promotes kids being anti-social and stuck on technology all day. Neither of them want to be in school and they can't wait to get out of there. There are quite a few excellent teachers but I feel that their hands are tied as they were told they had to incorporate the tablets. Never have I felt more of the urge to homeschool before. This was not the school I moved into the neighborhood to have my kids attend 12 years ago. They might as well just look things up on the internet!"
"Hate this place, there is nothing redeemable about this school except for a couple of amazing teachers who are sadly stuck here to rot with the rest of their sub-par peers and the thousands of students who are forced to waste their life in this sad pit."
"Great school for my daughter. Gave out iPad's to incomming freshman. Helps cut down on carrying so many books."
"Amazing music department! Mr. Davidson and his crew crafts a delightful expereince for students. Not to mention parts of Ferris Bulers day off was filmed there. Delightful!"
"As of this June, all three of our children will have graduated from Glenbard North, and all three have received excellent educations. Two are currently in college, and the third will join them in the fall. They are honor students who were/are involved in numerous activities at North, from athletics to drama to clubs, etc. They benefitted from Glenbard North academically, socially, and in character development. Academically, professors at two universities have commented on how well prepared the kids were -- especially writing skills. They were much better prepared to do research, organize their schedules, and manage large homework and test loads than many of their college peers. Due to the diverse population at Glenbard North, the kids are very well prepared to be effective in a multicultural environment. They appreciate the many different people they encounter and are completely at home in a "global" society. All three kids were fortunate to have some very dedicated teachers or coaches who demonstrated their integrity and commitment to their students at every opportunity. They were good role models who talked about character in real terms -- what it means to "say not to drugs", how to treat a girl/boyfriend with respect. Their ability to relate to the kids made a real, positive difference. One of our children intends to be a high school teacher, largely due to a desire to pass along the benefits she received as a student. Is every teacher at North excellent? No. Some are lazy and indifferent to the needs of their students. Unfortunately, there are lazy, indifferent people in every school and every business. But the current administration is terrific and they are attracting new, energized teachers. What Glenbard North really needs is active, involved parents, active within the parameters of a high school. But just because someone can't be a classroom volunteer (and what high school student wants mom/dad in the classroom?), doesn't prevent him/her from having an important role in their student's school life. Monitor your student's grades, meet the friends, encourage your kids to get involved in extracurriculars. Get involved in one of the many booster organizations. It's a great way to meet teachers/coaches/staff, meet other parents/students, and find out what's really going on in the building. We believe our kids truly benefitted from their years at North. In an era where every tax dollar is scrutinized down to the last dime, we absolutely believe we had a terrific return on our investment."
